When's it time to shut 'em down?

Ive been noticing more Christmas lights on than normal at this point. Id always thought that New Years was when they should be turned off, but several people I was asking today were saying end of January, which surprised me.

What say you?

They seem "out of season" for me after maybe the first week of January. Though I don't mind at all seeing them on later.

Actually, they have those. I saw a co-worker watching a video about it. Its like permanent light you put up. I think they are suppose to be hard to see when not on or something. But I know that it said like permanent holiday lights of something... Its even possible my they change colors to match the holiday...

Outdoor christmas lights should be turned off at 8 PM. Some people are trying to sleep. Save the electric wires, lights and box for after the lights are off. Later that night, someone will go around your yard and collect the lights.

I voted the 8th but there's a house a drive by a few times a week that left theirs up all year round. This giant plastic Santa, sleigh and 2 reindeer on top of the overhang of their porch.

It came down last year after about 7 years because of a combination of rotting wood under the decoration and high winds. The sleigh and Santa were no longer red, but all white from the sun.

Day after. No later. Christmas is over after the 25th. There is objectively no reason to keep them on after this date. All this "Christmas doesn't end until blah blah blah" shit needs to stop. The second midnight hits on the 26th is the second the festive season ends. Accept it and move on with your life.

Honestly with how depressingly cold winter is, I'd ideally like to see such lights on till the end of January myself. Or even later, if by some weird chance they don't want to take such lights down before then. I know most don't do that though, myself. And like you can guess, voted till end of January in this poll.

Got mine running all year, same as tons of other people have as well, it's nice decorative lights that fit any time of year.

The winter holiday specifics can go down once the last snow is melted (usually around mars~april) but lights have no reason to go down until they break.

I take them down on the 7th. I then put up my Valentine's lights and decorations. I have lights for several holidays (lights for my trees and a decorative light on my front window).

Generally, my family would keep lighting them until the 6th (turning them off when we went to bed), which is traditionally the "Last day of Christmas," but they'd tend to stay up for at least a couple months after that before the weather would be good enough to easily take them down. My dad died five years ago, though, and he was the only one comfortable with going up the ladder to get the high ones, so the higher stuff just kind of stays up year-round now.

As for lighting them later into the winter, I'm generally a fan of the idea. Winter's generally just a dark time of year, and the increasing presence of Christmas lights leading up to the solstice helps to offset that and make everything a bit brighter and happier. It's just as dark in late January as it is in early December, though, so I don't really see any reason to stop trying to brighten up the world before the world starts brightening itself again.
