People who unironically think this kind of thing have never lived outside of a city in their lives. Public transportation is impossible to implement in areas where some people take twenty minutes just to get from their own house to a main road.

The comments about rural life is exactly the excuse that boomers use to keep their gas guzzling cars going.

Hate to break this to you guys but most of our major cities are designed around cars as well, with disastrous results.

Eliminate cars, absolutely not.

like it has been said, cities are built around cars, too. Poorly.

I've biked on highways. I knew someone who walked an hour and a half from work each way from their rural home to a college campus. We don't need to eliminate cars but this has always been a bad argument.

I live in the suburbs and there is no public transportation. What's more it's a residential town so I need to go to surrounding towns for any type of retail store, grocery shopping, the mall, etc, etc.

Even in cities like London and Tokyo, what about homes and businesses that aren't within reasonable walking distance to a public transportation station?

People still use cars there even with the great public transportation.

This.

Also oh, driving 2 states away? Better tack on 4 hours to wait for your car to charge instead of filling with gas in ~5 minutes.
