It would be hilariously spiteful to address complaints of too many swordsmen by adding in a swordsdog as a DLC character.

As extraordinarily underwhelmed as I am by Byleth, Sakurai has more than made up for it with the rest of the additions so I'll let it slide.

Same for me. But in terms of gameplay, she looks pretty decent at least, and that's what I care about most in the long run. Wasn't a hype reveal, but I always trust in Sakurai.

Byleth looks pretty fun, but I enjoy high risk, high reward types of fighters.

Eh, hopefully since it's been supposedly two months or so since they recorded it, they've improved some of Byleth's moves. If we're basing them purely off the reveal video, a lot of their moves are more high risk, low-to-no reward.

I feel like Byleth could wreak havoc in a free-for-all where you have to pay attention to more than just him, but 1-on-1 it would be tougher.

SSBU does get balance patches so there is a bit of room to make her better if she turns out to be a bit too weak.

Yeah, they definitely would be better in free-for-all (or maybe even teams), but I probably wouldn't consider any character high risk in FFAs outside like light characters or those with bad recoveries, just because it can be a lot harder to punish characters with slower moves when you have to worry about someone else hitting you from behind (or wherever else).

I actually think all of Byleth's moves look really strong outside of the axe, which is clearly designed for free-for-all. The bigger issue is going to be her apparent low mobility, but at least her Up B recovery is really good to help mitigate that.

This is a good point, though I'm not entirely sure how they're deciding who to buff and nerf. Early on in the game's life, it seemed like they were catering patches more to online play where Byleth might not be as bad since it's harder to react with the input delay.

They have since then buffed K. Rool and other heavies like DK and Incineroar, however, so it's certainly not impossible they could patch Byleth at some point.

At a glance, Byleth looks much more viable than all three of those heavies, which admittedly is not a high bar to clear.

I like characters with range and power, so hopefully Byleth turns out to be fun.

Ubisoft and Nintendo have a good relationship and Rayman is sufficiently iconic, so he has a decent chance, but also I dont know that he ranks very high in terms of fan desire, so hes by no means a sure thing. He seems like the obvious choice if they want to give Ubisoft a character though.

Hes probably in my top five most wanted third party characters at this point. He deserves a spot.

Heck the best Rayman games are the ones where you can instantly stop playing as Rayman.

Now Rabbid Peach, theres a ubisoft character with some hair on her chest.

Rayman is also pretty much...dead?
Legends was released in 2013 and ever since then...he only appeared in the Mobile game Rayman Adventures in 2015 and last year finally got another new game...but Apple Arcade only, and a similar gameplay to other Rayman mobile games
So he might not be dead officially but he is below the radar

This is actually something people have been purposely misquoting. Reggie's exact quote is "These are characters that are new to the series." He doesn't say "new worlds" or "series new to Smash" like people are saying.

I actually wasn't aware of that, and it does change things regarding Byleth being an option. Nevertheless, the other characters being third-party did set a precedent that the final character could be reasonably expected to be another third-party character.

Oh, yeah, absolutely.

It's just silly since the Smash board is full of "They lied to us!"

Byleth is basically Ganondorf. Character is slow and awkward and probably pretty bad overall, then you land something random by the ledge that kills at 70 and you kind of forget the beating you've been taking up to that point.

Played Brawl again today for the first time in over a decade. Thoughts:

-I miss old Ike's sound effects
-I don't miss anything else, once the nostalgia wore off it controlled soooo bad

Byleth seems pretty strong as is expected with DLC fighters

After getting all spirits currently available to me including events I missed that are now available looks like I"m only missing the 4 from the Pokemon S/S event.

At this point I think my fondest memories of the series are of Brawl speculation and the first few months of its release, even if the game itself doesn't hold up a bit.
