Got to minimize as much as you can so that the summer months can basically eradicate the disease like SARS. April is the optimistic viewpoint I'd wager.

I frequent both for fun and work places that typically have tens of thousands of people gathered at once so I am hoping we can keep a handle on this thing here.

The only good thing is here in Cali we should already be prepared with supplies if we have to quarantine just because we always have the risk of a major earthquake looming over us
Nothing suggests the heat stops this as of now. We have cases in countries that are hot right now.

South Korea managed to have over 800 reported infections in a single day. Damn. Guess who's responsible? Yep, it's Korean cult news time!

First:
Another article detailing them. Gets pretty good into who they are, how they operate, and mentions that petition to the government: now over one million, that's to say 2% of the entire country, wants to have them forced to disband through government force.

https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/courts-crime/south-korean-cults-activities-in-singapore-mirror-its-shadowy-operations

But this was my favorite one:

https://www.scmp.com/week-asia/health-environment/article/3052550/south-korea-mounting-anger-rumours-over-shincheonji

Anger and mistrust at Shincheonji reached a peak when an online post detailed the groups alleged plans to infiltrate traditional churches. A pastor at one of these churches wrote that a whistle-blower from inside Shincheonji had tipped him off that members were being ordered to spread the coronavirus to other churches.

When I first heard about this so-called rumour, I believed that it was 100 per cent true, said Kim Ha-jung, a woman in her fifties who was a member of Shincheonji in its early days in the 1990s. She used a pseudonym out of fear that the group would find her again.

By spreading the virus to regular churches, Shincheonji is trying to quell the exposure that it is currently receiving, she said. Theyre afraid their lies will all come out in public.

This cult has gone from doomsday cult to straight to up supervillain. "Hey, how do we get rid of all this stigma against us? 2% of the whole country wants the government to bag us all! Wait I've got it, every church should be infected. Every. Fucking. One. Then it's not just us!"

Serious supervillain logic.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- One man has locked himself in his Brooklyn apartment, trying to get by with a hacking cough and a fever - and a real concern he is infected with the novel coronavirus.

RELATED: How to protect yourself from coronavirus.

"The thing that's scary to me, is there's not many cases in New York, but obvious there's people like me who are coming back from places that have a lot of infections," he said.
The man, who will go by 'John' by anonymity, recently spent five days in Tokyo on business. When he returned home this week, he just knew he had a problem.

At NYU Brooklyn, they put him in isolation, and ran a battery of tests for other things - all negative. Then, per protocol, they called the CDC, because NYU Suspect COVID-19, but the CDC said no.

The CDC says they thought he wasn't sick enough - even though public health experts say most coronavirus cases are more minor, and it flies in the face of what the CDC said on a press call on Friday.

Kinda silly but if there was a plague humanity is fucked. This entire thing could have been prevented if they had just completely shut everything down as soon as this outbreak started. It is too late now and likely impossible to contain now, but they would rather everyone die then just completely shut down.

The CDC--along with every other health organization in the world--can't contain the flu, a disease which seems to generally be less contagious and also a disease for which a vaccine with some effectiveness exists.

It wouldn't surprise me if the CDC mishandled things (and we already have the one whistleblower thing, for example), but I don't think it would be accurate to classify this as entirely due to CDC incompetence.

didn't post anything yesterday but:

confirmed case in Manhattan.
also multiple known cases of the CDC refusing to test people who clearly display all of the symptoms and have tested negative on everything. one of the best known instances of that: a guy in Brooklyn.

so expect NYC news on this because one of the biggest cities, home of the stock exchange, is already fucked and the only question is "how much."

We usually have what I would estimate is at least 7-10 days of food(Way more than this in water, just because sales of bottled water usually dictate making a big purchase) in case of an earthquake, we are making sure to stock up just a bit extra in case.

Definitely expecting a fairly sharp increase in cases confirmed in the United States in the coming days.

Its best to be proactive even if the authorities arent doing much. Everyone here has already started preparations before the first case arrived, and a month later there are only 100 cases despite being right next to mainland China and the governments best attempts to make it far worse. A bit of paranoia goes a long way in limiting spreads.

NCAA really doesn't want to do it, but there is a large push to make the March madness games empty gyms.

I was spose to go to the ACC tourney in Greensboro and was considering the opening rounds of March madness in Greensboro. But, they might not even have fans anyways.

It will take a lot of the joy out of the games if they have no fans there, but safety first.

I generally didn't mind the paranoia because it was making people be smarter and more careful (cases of the flu are down, I hear, because people are being more cautious than usual), but at some point it's going too far and you're letting it control your life.

there's some genuine unintended consequences that are beneficial. flu is down due to a mix of weather and precautions. in china, their carbon emissions and pollution numbers have dropped significantly, like you know all those metrics that people want to hit for climate change? china is exceeding that. air quality over there hasn't been this good in over ten years.

all it took was a global pandemic.

We're instituting some likely controversial policy that poor hygiene is an auto-kick from our tournaments starting this week. We're also asking players not to touch each other's cards without permission and to use hand sanitizer, etc. Not that there are any cases in our area, but we don't want to have to cancel our tournaments out-of-hand.
