Well Sony has already pulled out of this year's E3 and the current rumors are that Nintendo is going to drop out soon too. Seems like E3 isn't worth his time anymore, especially now that he has a big yearly show that reveals new games too. I mean The Game Awards even had the new Xbox reveal, that's something that always happened at E3!

Passes go up on Saturday and I'm not sure if I want to get one this year. If Nintendo pulls out then I definitely don't have a reason to go.

It's pretty wild seeing how many people seem to be shocked that E3 is dying when the writing has been pretty cleanly on the wall for a couple of years now. Shows like that are a true relic with how easily (and ceaselessly) information is disseminated now.

It's kinda baffling that it's existed in it's current state for as long as it has anyway honestly. Why would a company spend so much on advertising just to announce a new game the same day as 100 other games? Why wouldn't you just do it a week later so you don't have to compete with everyone else?

Or you do a big press conference only for the internet to decide you "lost to Sony" and grade you 3/10. Just avoid the comparisons completely by doing your own thing.

Because it's a forum people pay attention to. If a game got a trailer at E3, it was a big deal.

Speaking as a developer, I never liked E3. It was for the press, and all the cool presentations you watch on the internet you can't even get into unless you're press. I never really understood the purpose of renting out the huge convention center when all the high profile stuff happened in private hotel presentation rooms and an E3 badge couldn't get you in. It looks way more cool on the internet than it is to actually have an E3 badge.

Given that the cool parts were 90% internet-only I don't really see a point in actually having a convention hall.

GDC was always my thing, since that's developers sharing "here's a cool coding trick we used in our game".

Other gaming related conferences like PAX, Comic Con, and Dragon Con are doing great, since that's just focused on the fans nerd culture in general and a place where people can play a board game together. Individual companies have had their own successful conferences like Blizzcon.

But E3 really doesn't have a reason to actually have a physical conference hall, since it's basically a thing that exists on the internet where you don't get to see the cool stuff if you show up in person with a ticket.

I'm kinda sad I never got to experience E3 live when it was most worth it.

I'd probably still be interested if I had the chance. If Nintendo drops out that's probably a dealbreaker though.

Remember when E3 shrank for those 2 years and everyone complained.
Maybe they knew.

E3 is a cool concept. Shame it's dying.
