I'm too tired to compose a paragraph explaining it, so I'll just list all the things I did that I think gave off the impression that I was not right for the job:

Arrived fifteen minutes late and called the interviewer only twenty minutes before the scheduled time.
Didn't smile, didn't talk unless prompted, and overall I feel that I gave the impression that I did not seem interested in the position, which was perfectly true.
Did not finish the test I was set; forgot how to find the slope of a regression line.
Kept tripping over my words, which I normally do in casual conversation, anyway.
Kept failing to answer the interviewers' questions straight-away, which resulted in a bunch of awkward silences.
Neglected to provide in-depth responses to about half of the questions posed.
Neglected to put on the application a previous position I held for only two hours; otherwise, choosing not to lie about it.
There was a panel of three interviewers; I made eye contact with only the one, because I'm much too uncomfortable doing it normally, anyway.
Kept tripping over my words while doing mock-presentations during the interview, which I assume would be a regular duty of the job.
Overall, the contact person with whom I had arranged the interview did not get the impression that I am sociable at all; at some point in the interview, he asked if I had any more questions after I had asked none at all.
I asked a question at the end, and I got the feeling that I was being tested. I failed, naturally; I felt like he expected (or rather, did not expect) me to ask about the company and what it does. I was not even given the name of the company or a description of its function in the Department of Human Services, which his team is branched under before coming in to talk.
At the end, one of the interviewers had said goodbye to me. I just said, "Bye", because I had neglected to remember what her name was or the other person which I thoroughly ignored.

All in all, I felt like I would not have hired me, either, to say the least.

At least you didn't fuck up the interview with a super good job at the last second like I did.

Everything was going so well until the interview looked to be over. Then right as I was getting up to leave, the interviewer says:
"Wait a minute! Where do you see yourself in 5 years? We need a leader in this area so bad!"

OMG, if I just told him that I'd hoped to be a supervisor in the area, I definitely would've got the job, but he caught me off guard. I told him that the family will be moving because people are too openly racist here and I can't raise my half Korean, half Mexican children here because half children get hit with racism the hardest.

God, I look back at that interview and just wish I could redo the last 3 minutes of it...

Wowza. Are you paraphrasing or you said exactly that?

Pretty sure I bombed an interview for a city engineer position at the last minute as well. Told em I planned to get my P.E. (Professional Engineer) license and when they asked if I have questions, I asked if a P.E. is required to work for the city.

I prepared for all but what questions to ask the interviewers and my brain farted out that question. I am sure if I was tied with another candidate, that woulda been what killed my chance for the position.

It was pretty much what I said.

What'd they say? Did you get your license anyway?

I forgot their exact response as this interview was several years ago. I think it was something along the lines of the license is not required but still nice to get.

My current engineering position does not require a license so I have been severely dragging my feet to get it. Still, my supervisor did ask about it and said there'll be some compensation if I get it so I really oughta study for it instead of talking out of me arse. Definitely will open some doors elsewhere should I ever decide to change companies.

I'm taking it in April. I signed up for the Water/Environmental afternoon portion. My boss says there will be compensation too (though he didn't specify how much).
:D

Best of luck to yer and hope that compensation also comes with a raise. I really should take it soon in case the various code changes affects the test.

That would actually help the situation. I mean at least it would explain why this happened. Ah well the TC didn't seem bothered with the job anyway so meh.

I just got called back for a second interview, and I am wondering what's up with that. I don't think I'm going to let them know that I am interested for a follow-up.
