Pretty concerned. It's already been reported in my area and I work in a warehouse with well over 1000 people so yeah.

Plus with these new reports that it will probably affect up to 70% of the world population, I'm not optimistic.

The regular flu kills like 50000 Americans a year
Unless you're a newborn baby, elderly or someone with a shitty immune system you'll be absolutely fine.

Or you could go full panic and get these for your pets

I'm concerned that people around me are already in a panic before the damn virus even gets here.

Not particularly worried about myself. I couldn't even tell you the last time I've had anything more than a mild cold, so presumably I've got a pretty strong immune system. As a result, even if I do get it, I doubt I'd be one of the severe cases. My partner on the other hand doesn't have the best lungs, so I'd be more concerned about him getting it.

Meh, not very. I can't stop it, so it doesn't really matter. If I get sick, I get sick and get to miss work. Maybe finally use my 90 hours of sick time...

Not at all. The death rate of people under the age of 40 is 0.2% and even those people had mitigating factors involved (treatment / pre-existing conditions / etc). So there's minimal risk of death for me and the symptoms don't even seem that bad

70% stat is the high end estimate, the range was 40-70%.
https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2020/02/covid-vaccine/607000/

relevant part in a sec, it is worth noting before freaking out about it is that he very specifically followed up with the fact that this isn't severe cases, it's all cases.

The Harvard epidemiology professor Marc Lipsitch is exacting in his diction, even for an epidemiologist. Twice in our conversation he started to say something, then paused and said, Actually, let me start again. So its striking when one of the points he wanted to get exactly right was this: I think the likely outcome is that it will ultimately not be containable.

Containment is the first step in responding to any outbreak. In the case of COVID-19, the possibility (however implausible) of preventing a pandemic seemed to play out in a matter of days. Starting in January, China began cordoning off progressively larger areas, radiating outward from the city of Wuhan and eventually encapsulating some 100 million people. People were barred from leaving home, and lectured by drones if they were caught outside. Nonetheless, the virus has now been found in 24 countries.

Despite the apparent ineffectiveness of such measuresrelative to their inordinate social and economic cost, at leastthe crackdown continues to escalate. Under political pressure to stop the virus, last Thursday the Chinese government announced that officials in Hubei province would be going door-to-door, testing people for fevers and looking for signs of illness, then sending all potential cases to quarantine camps. But even with the ideal containment, the viruss spread may have been inevitable. Testing people who are already extremely sick is an imperfect strategy if people can spread the virus without even feeling bad enough to stay home from work.

Lipsitch predicts that within the coming year, some 40 to 70 percent of people around the world will be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19. But, he clarifies emphatically, this does not mean that all will have severe illnesses. Its likely that many will have mild disease, or may be asymptomatic, he said. As with influenza, which is often life-threatening to people with chronic health conditions and of older age, most cases pass without medical care. (Overall, about 14 percent of people with influenza have no symptoms.)

worried for my general health, no. been keeping up so i'm not concerned on that.
worried for the state of my supermarkets or any extra medicine to stock up on, hell yes.

Not at all worried about my own personal health. The pain in the ass of being quarantined would be way worse than the illness itself, which is by all reports nothing to worry about for healthy young adults in civilized countries.

More worried about it from a world affairs standpoint - stuff like the Olympics getting cancelled, industries tanking, economies destabilizing and that kind of thing.

From a getting sick standpoint zero. It's largely overblown for the vast majority of people. Im more worried about my vaccinations not sticking and getting a disease anti vaxxers brought back.

Financially I'm a little concerned. My work would let me work from home basically indefinitely if things got bad enough. But limited manufacturing and retail would potentially hurt the company bad enough that layoffs could be possible. I doubt I'd be at risk if it came to that though. So really unless significant portions of the united states are quarantined, I'll be fine.

I'm not worried. This is just the newest fad virus that the news is panicking about and spreading the panic to the public. I'm more annoyed a ton of things are being canceled and delayed over it.

Id be more worried about how the panic and scarcity of items can affect your life. Beyond a few basic things, theres not much you can do about not getting sick. Having some items prepped in case you need to stay in your place a week or two also wouldnt be the worst.

It's okay to not be worried, but this mindset is just willful ignorance at this point

Sars killed 774 people during its outbreak. Corona has killed 3,465.
The. U.S. had 27 cases of Sars with no deaths. The U.S. has 272 confirmed cases of Corona with 15 deaths so far.

Corona is factually more dangerous than other "fad viruses" in the past.
