Just saw the video of Rudy Gobert mocking the coronavirus days before he tested positive for it. Wow, talk about karma hitting you quick.

Donavon Mitchell has tested positive as well, at this point I'd assume a good number, if not all, of the Utaz Jazz players has it. So if you go off the R0 of CoVID19 - this could get really ugly.

I'm glad we're past the point of psychos calling for totalitarianism in an attempt for containment, and are now on the "smoothing out the peak" strategy which actually makes sense.

But the damage is still done, at least in the US with Trump. Who knows what he will do as a show of "containment" now. It got me to cancel my plans though, so if that was the goal it worked.

Curious to see how companies will go back to arguing against working remote after this though. That's a really good thing coming out of this at least.

Its not a choice of shutting down/not shutting down. Its a choice of doing it now or later when things have gotten way worse because of a failure to act.

yeah, we're going to be forced to shut things down later if we don't do it now and, more importantly, will not have a health care system remotely capable of handling all of the cases. infection of this thing doubles extremely fast, you go from 100 new cases to 1000 new cases in a bit over a week. it's not containable but if the process is slowed down it buys much needed time for everyone.

it does put a massive strain on the economy though, that's true. payroll tax obviously isn't helpful for people who will be out a job. i don't have a good answer for that, we're fucked either way. but at least this way lets everything be possible to get managed well, with the alternative being nothing will.

A negative test result doesn't necessarily mean negative with this virus. As a result of that it ain't being hysterical, it's being practical and realistic.

Yeah it's practical for everyone who tested negative and everyone who interacted with anyone who tested negative to use up even more of the limited testing resources for absolutely no reason

I don't know the details of the specific test they use to detect it, but if it's like other tests of that nature you're only going to detect the virus when you've shown symptoms and are actively shedding the virus. You're not going to test positive if you've contracted the virus and it hasn't multiplied enough in your body to actually make you sick yet.

Correct, this is a problem with it. The swab is probably what's being used and it's been known to be mostly accurate but a large enough failure rate that it's not useful. If there's not enough virus you get a negative. Lung imagining is better but I don't think our testing uses that yet. For now a negative is a good sign but monitoring and quarantine (self or otherwise) should continue before another later swab test. If that's negative and no symptoms, clear.

There's definitely overreacting happening but underreacting gets us Italy.

So going a little excessive is fine, especially considering our healthcare infrastructure cannot take anything like those results. Hell, our medical supply can't take it since almost 90% of meds are made in China anyway and unless we have a strong drive to having the US create drugs, it's them or India.

There has been rumblings of allowing people at my work (IRS) to switch to working from home as a response, but I'm not sure how quickly they could get the equipment together to make that happen. I'm guessing not for at least several weeks and that's assuming the rumors are serious and there are steps being taken on the back end to push it forward.

Pretty sure the entire team was put into self-quarantine because of the chance of infection. Im glad they tested negative though, but on the flip side its been known that this thing can trick even the tests. Which is why you need to get 3 negative tests to even leave quarantine.

Not trying to cause a panic at all. Just pointing out how stupid Gobert was acting pre-coronavirus and putting his teammates, and possibly more people ,at risk.
