This post might get lost with the news coming out, but I wanted to expand upon the discussion we had about the state of Standard yesterday. I managed to get up to Rank 8 last night, so I just bit the bullet and net-decked a quick Galakrond Rogue deck, except I shoved Lab Recruiter in for Leeroy because I refuse to play him, to at least make my deck sorta unique. Despite conceding immediately a few times to any Activate the Obelisk sighting because I refuse to be subjected to that torture, I made it to Rank 5 in a matter of about 2 hours. God that deck is bonkers.

I've been calling for MCT to be hall of famed for like...two years now. They removed it from Arena cause it was so awful to play against.

Just a stupid card. The difference between stealing a 1/1 and stealing an 8/8 sea giant is like...a 28 point stat swing decided entirely by RNG. It's literally the only card I wanted to see on the hall of fame list this year.

Acolyte of Pain and Spellbreaker are a surprise. Basically in the interview they said they wanted to print more class card drawing and class silences.

5 mana Giggling was a terror in arena. Probably the strongest arena card they've ever printed, other than maybe some legendary that you'd rarely see (Tarim?). It was still playable at 7 and might be among the top cards at 6. I guess we'll see when it rotates back in. Not that arena factored into their decision making at all, I'm sure. It's been so mismanaged and neglected that it's basically a dead format.

In supported format news, it looks like the buff to Millhouse in Battlegrounds put it into tier 1 (at least according to the HSReplay beta stats of top 20% players). Deathwing is still #1, though, even with the nerf. And the new murloc hero is trash tier.

Oh yeah, the slower the format the betteer Giggling is. Wild being a fast format, 5 mana giggling wasn't super impactful. Arena being slower than Standard, well...RIP.

Most of us quit WoW before monks were added to the game. Demon Hunters were part of WoW two expansions (read: four years) earlier. They're also incredibly iconic in terms of Warcraft lore. I don't care one way or the other about Pandarens, but monks don't have any place at all in the Azeroth I know...unless you mean the ones in Scarlet Monastery.

I am so glad to see MCT out. That was such a bullshit card. Punished you for playing well. And they might as well have just made Acolyte of Pain a warrior card since it basically already was. I am surprised with Spellbreaker, though. I would have thought that having some kind of neutral silence available would be a good thing. If they could find a way to take it out of the hands of aggro players who are eliminating a final desperate taunt, okay, sure, but having silence available has value. I don't like the approach the team has often taken where they say "there's an answer to this problem, but only one class gets it" like when warlock gets the anti-combo tools.

Speaking of which, remember that this is free real estate. If you don't have any of the hof bound cards, craft them in golden.

You'll get that dust back, and then if you never use the card you can dust them for profit. Or keep them instead for no loss.

Even though I'll never use it, I want a gold leeroy in my collection.

Like...I understand that Secret Mage is an aggro deck, and can point fireballs at your face if you afk for the first 6 turns, but it's just an aggro deck. Healing/gaining armour/fighting for board can delay it well past turn 6. And Quest Mage certainly can't kill till turn 9 at the earliest (they need to play Vargoth (4) + Time Warp (5) and can't use coin to do so).

Anyway, I'm a little worried about the new Druid deck, buuut I haven't actually faced it at all so far. Still facing almost entirely Priests in wild. Razakus Priest, which is understandable cause it just got buffed, but also a ton of res priest for...some reason. Weird cause that deck mostly went away when Barnes got nerfed, and nothing about the deck has been buffed yet.

EDIT: also worth noting that the wild Kael'Thas druid? You can run almost the same deck in standard (replace Ultimate Infestation with Overflow). Some streamers have also combined it with the Druid quest so that Nourish draws 3 and gains 2 mana crystals. So...this isn't a wild thing, it's a Kael'Thas thing.

They needed a much more specific hand on turn 6 than this Druid, but Flamewalker -> Coin -> Apprentice -> Apprentice into spells, then an Evocation -> Cyclone basically meant your entire board is now dead and your face was taking 20-30 damage.

Funnily enough most of the mage decks I run into aren't even playing Flamewaker, so I kind of blanked on Flamewaker shenanigans.

I feel like this is the weakest group I've ever won battlegrounds with. Those were the only two golds I got, and I got both of them going into the final fight that I already knew I was winning, I was actually debating not taking them just so I could win with no triples but that seemed like tempting fate too much.

The bot and the big egg both had taunt and divine shield, and the bot also summons six microbots.

First thought is that's pretty strong but second thought is that it's a bit of a win-more card. Sure this lets you end the game if you have a full board and the enemy has a few taunts but it's basically functioning the same as a regular board clear in that situation.

In most other cases this is basically the same as fireballing the enemy's face or something like that. I mean if you ignore all of the enemies minions and they're NOT dead they're just going to clear your board right?

There aren't enough charge minions to make this overpowered except in lol wild

Fill your hand with random Mage spells. At the end of your turn, discard them.

This causes...all sorts of messes in wild. For starters, obviously good with quest, which is already arguably the best deck in wild.

But even outside of quest decks, mage can use this spell plus Elemental Evocation to play Mountain Giant on turn 1. >_<. Guess we know why they hall of famed Mountain Giant.

Playing Battlegrounds about once a day, and spreading it out across all three regions, has allowed me to pretty much stay in the 4k range forever. This is a great ego boost because my stats say these are my last fifteen results between the regions.

1st - 3
2nd - 5
3rd - 4
4th - 2
7th - 1

And on top of that, I just got my first perfect game.

Oh yeah, being in the 4k range while knowing what you're doing is great. People on rBobsTavern didn't believe me when I said I got 1st or 2nd most games. "But even the top streamers don't pull that off" yeah, and top streamers aren't in the 4k range.

(I was actually sub 4k for a while, cause the first several games I played were on mobile when the game crashed roughly once per turn).

Might have been harder at 4k early on. I basically didn't play battlegrounds at all for a good month or two after it came out, by which point all the competent people had climbed well out of 4k. I'd lose to the occasional good player or occasional highroll, but half the lobby would just like...kind-of implode or quit early.

Just had a fantastic start playing Rafaam.
T1: Whelp
T2: Whelp, steal a whelp
T3: tier up, grab the 2/1 divine shield, freeze a Togwaggle
T4: buy Togwaggle and 2/3 taunt
T5: buy whelp and second Togwaggle

Was only tier 2 at that point, but I basically went right to 6. By the time I got there, I had a third whelp, golden Togwaggle, and a random Mal'Ganis. Grabbed Razorgore, then Malygos, and eventually during heads-up I got a Nadina. Took a huge hit the turn I got Maly because I got surprised by a huge cleave, but I ran the table otherwise.
