Current Events > Hollow Knight doesn't get any better, does it?

It's boring the hell out of me and the only reason I'm still playing is for something to do. Everything looks the same. Practically impossible to tell the difference from one room in an area to another. Everybody looks the same. From NPCs to enemies to even the protagonist. The music is super dull. Not one standout track. Story seems incredibly disjointed and poorly paced. I have a ton of the map revealed and I can't tell you at all what's even going on.

I was told that since I hold Ori as one of the very few masterpieces in gaming I'd love this. Whoever told me that is a fucking liar.

It was okay for me, I guess I'm not into Metroidvanias because that game was nothing special for me

It's the same feeling I had when playing Mario Odyssey, that was just okay but not good for me. Both games felt like disappointments to me for the amount of hype they both got.

For a Metroidvania that copied a lot of unnecessary things from Dark Souls it could have been much, much worse.

You sound like you are 2 maybe 3 hours into HK maximum. If that's the case the game really opens up quite soon.

If that's not the case then lol

hollow knight clicked for me once i got all the main movement upgrades

became a rollercoaster after that point

I'm way beyond 3 hours. You don't get the double-jump if you're not far beyond that time.

Its dope as shit all the way through. If youre not liking it then play something else. Also if everything in the game looks the same to you then you definitely didnt get very far into it

Played games since I was 4. Played games like this plenty. There is almost no variation within each area. Every room looks the same.

I disagree with all of your points. Things absolutely do not look the same, the music is great, the map is easy to navigate, the story is well-crafted, and the traversal/combat is fun.

Though I agree with TC in that I prefer Ori 1 and especially 2 over HK.

The environments are different but it isn't like they blatantly stand out from one another outside of a couple of areas. If you randomly flick my Knight off to a random spot I likely wouldn't be able to tell you where I am without checking the map. It's something I've felt about it as well but it's easy to ignore because I find the gameplay so damn smooth.

No, it's totally fine for people to not like a game. I think F-Zero GX is perfection but I'm not going to blast anyone for not liking the it and that game is the definition of "git gud". Some of those missions on the highest difficulty require literal perfection to complete them. I think we're old enough to handle different opinions even if we don't necessarily agree with them.

Besides, it does say a lot how some people are telling TC that he is wrong without going into detail why. You can't just say "Your taste is bad" when countering someone. Don't be lazy. Prove you're right at least.

That is literally exactly how I feel about Ori 2. It's a pain in the ass figuring out exactly where I am and where I can and can't go, or even just remembering what areas I should go back to in the future.

That's because it does suffer from the same problem Hollow Knight does. Little variation within the areas makes for every room looking the same which leads you to constantly question if you're going the right way. At least with Ori getting around is actually fun and quick.

Being lost due to the giant map in a metroidvania is a common issue (forgetting which areas are connected, where to go in general etc...). However, I'm pretty sure you know the "general area" you're in because they each have different themes, structures, colors, atmospheres. They are two distinct issues.

I loved Ori but did not like Hollow Knight at all. There was much more of an emphasis on boss fights, which I didn't enjoy, and less on exploration. And I hated the death mechanic.
