Before, they'd get the idea to move like ~4 days in advance, and there were mechanics in place to get them to tell you (or in rare occasions other animals would mention it), but it was never guaranteed you'd actually have the conversation with them and thus it was possible for them to move without you realizing it. It was always a worry that if you put the game down for a week or so, you might be coming back to your favorite animal being gone.
