No. Not many people here do. The workers are grocery stores and restaurants do, though. Also, I wear them at work. But I also constantly take it off. And I'm not the only one...

No not really. Most masks aren't going to do all that much, and the ones that do should be given to nurses.

I do have one in my car for my pizza deliveries. I just put it on if it's an older person that ordered

"Masks don't do anything."

To protect yourself, they don't do much (30% reduction of risk). But if you're sick and don't know it, a mask will reduce the risk of others getting sick by 95%! And if you're both wearing masks the benefit is even greater.

So wear a damn mask!

How do you know you're not sick? Have you been tested? Recently? A large number of infected persons will have no symptoms at all, or nothing more than a fever. But they can still infect others who might not be so fortunate as to remain asymptomatic. And if you do experience symptoms, you may be infectious for several days before the onset.

I think the mask main function is actually for keeping the person who's wearing the mask from spreading it. It would be pretty hard without test to know if you were sick or not, so he could be sick and spreading it. But if he isn't sick, it's probably not too bad to not wearing the mask. It would still be safer, but...

It's recommended that you wear a mask around other people even if you aren't sick.

Well, yeah. Its still helps you. But only a very small percentage. Plus, you dont know if youre sick. So, its better if everyone wears them. But apparently, its still seems to be mostly for the people that are sick, so they stop spreading it...

Even if captpackrats picture, it shows that if anyone is going to wear it, its best for the sick person to wear it...

Again, everyone should wear it if they have them. But I think its main function is to keep sick people from spreading it rather than to keep people from getting it...

I haven't been, but I probably should slap together a homemade one for grocery shopping (which is about all I leave the house for these days. I'll have to shave, though, since I imagine having a beard will negate most or all of its benefit.

I am, however, wearing one in Animal Crossing. It showed up in the catalog the other day and it just seemed right.

Most of the transmission of this thing has been from a- or presymptomatic people. You could be contagious despite not being sick. Furthermore, It helps to keep you from getting sick. There's really no reason not to, honestly.

See if you can find anyone to help make a specialty mask. We had some people here getting certain people here to help make Mask because the normal ones were uncomfortable and other reasons. Someone might be able to make a mask with parts moved or removed to keep it from interfering with your beard, but still having it functional...

How do you know you're not sick?

Simply because I don't display any symptoms. I don't buy into this "hurr durr you may have it and not know it!" as if I did I could believe I have every virus and disease known to man without any evidence to suggest I have. I don't do "what if?" as that's pointless.

McSame_as_Bush posted...

As already said masks are mainly to stop you spreading a virus you have. IF I ever displayed symptoms than naturally I'd wear a mask. Although chances are I wouldn't even leave the house in that case.

I also see no reason to actually wear one so I don't. Most actually don't in my city at least probably for the same reason. Sure it can't hurt wearing one but It's not a must for me at this point and again at most I'd just wear what I posted if I wanted to be a worry wart. Those might not be as effective but would be better than nothing I suppose.

I don't buy into this "hurr durr you may have it and not know it!" as if I did I could believe I have every virus and disease known to man without any evidence to suggest I have.

There's a considerable difference between saying "you might have every virus ever and just be carrying it asymptomatically" and saying "there's this one virus going around that's notorious for being extremely contagious and is often transmitted asymptomatically." The former is ridiculous paranoia because it's virtually impossible. The latter is an acknowledgement of a very real, measurable risk. Unless you've been completely isolated for 2+ weeks without showing symptoms (or your only contact in that period has been with people who have been similarly isolated), the possibility exists that you have it. That's not comparable to your analogy, where the possibility realistically does not exist.

You acknowledge that wearing a mask can't hurt. You acknowledge that you could wear a bandana to get some of the protection without sacrificing anything. And yet you seem to feel that actually doing would be somehow bad. Why is that?

i wear one because i see my mom a lot, who is an old, AND because i don't want to infect my daughter...even though she is less likely than all of us to get it, ok?

also, my wife has asthma, which would mean a really shitty time if she got infected, ok?

if i didn't have family around me, i wouldn't worry about it so much, ok?

Where did I say wearing one is bad? I simply have no reason to wear one. 45 people who voted in this poll, including yourself it seems also don't bother so I think you can come off that high horse you seem to be riding. It's laughable that you're such a advocate for me wearing one yet "haven't been" yourself.

Being a hypocrite doesn't make me wrong. My only reasons for not doing so are a lack of scrap cloth/bandanas to use and procrastinating looking up directions for making one out of a whole shirt. Had I such things, I'd be wearing one, though even then the local infection rate is low enough that I'm not at huge risk during my biweekly grocery trips (which are basically the only time I leave the house).
