Finally got some ??? seeds. Not sure what I want to do.

Got Silver Aura for Kevin. I'm in my late 40s now so I'm wondering whether to wait and find Golden Aura for Divine Fist (the old God Hand), or just go with it and pick up the multi-heal. I have a Light/Light Hawkeye and Angela's... haven't checked yet, but it's Light/???. I don't have much for damage, in terms of Warrior Monk being Kevin's weakest physically... but should I wait and pray, or go for it?

Edit: Well... I WAS gonna go Nomad with Hawkeye, but all the spells I want are locked by Spirit and I'm at zero points in there. Most of my points are in Luck/Int/Str, and Luck just gets base stuff soon.

dammit I've been mislead, the item for class reset doesn't seem to actually be something you can farm for or anything and you only get them basically in the final dungeon, then more post-game

seeing reclass is what gave me the idea to Riesz Rune Maiden for the start and hopefully switch over to Valkyrie when it's time to move on to 3rd class, since at first single-target debuffs on the target is easier to manage than single-target buffing all your characters, but then I could switch over for 3rd class multi-target buffs :(

I was gonna originally just go Valk because I did Rune Maiden in my CoM playthrough but oh well guess I'll just be Fenrir Master instead of Dragon Master to switch her up

There's also a Cactus level, I think 35 or 40, that shows on the map how many Cacti are in each location. It doesn't show them on the map itself, but the 0/2 kind of thing. Really helped me out when I thought I had searched every square inch of a place, but it turned out there was a place to jump to I never looked at.

I'm in the middle of Dark Castle now and just wanted to sort out some thoughts comparing to my recollection of Seiken Densetsu 3.

First of all, the game is easier by virtue of the added bonuses and combat changes. Take away the Cacti, the battle experience bonuses, and the extra stats and buff feats, and the game would be pretty much the same in terms of development. You'd have much more grinding, much lower damage (no more Strength +5 boosts so you can go back to doing single-digit damage to freaking Potos in Undine's cavern), and with Charge attacks being less useful except for breaking armor, battles are a lot faster because you're not holding down the attack button for seven charges to unleash the (still-terrible and super missable) Light-Light Hawkeye L3 attack.

Also, with the Cacti and Item Find buffs and the gold items scattered throughout maps, Seeds were a lot, A LOT, harder to farm. I've gotten enough seeds to hit a Level 5 Pot! The ultimate seed weapons that were super rare and very hard to farm have been filling my pockets with Lucre for all the extra Genbu Suits that pop out of Silver Item Seeds. With good seed farming, I haven't really needed to buy weapons or armor since the fifth Benevodon. I still do because I want one of every single item, and weapons are fun to look at on characters, and if I weren't buying every single thing from the shopkeepers (and resetting to make sure I buy everything from them before they restock), I'd probably have 1000000 Gols right now.

These are not complaints, just observations. I'm LOVING this game. If I were to complain, it'd just be stupid stuff. Like, I ALSO wish the hair colors changed, and if I could change anything about the game, anything at all, it would be this:

When characters class change, I want them to pose like the old sprites and not just have the same one every time. I miss the different attitudes each pose brought.

yep it was cactus 35 I'm pretty sure - and while cacti don't get shown on the map, that same reward does let you see treasure chests on the map

Didn't get to play yet today but last thing I did was get to Pedda and I love how much I'm still in awe of the familiarity from its recreation, it's all just a perfect translation to 3D.

I was just about to point out one map I loved how it was adapted remaining nostalgic even while now becoming a bigger open area, and then I just now googled the SNES map and I'm realizing even more how accurate it remained - Burning Sands. Ninja Hawkeye and Valkyrie Riesz is A+ synergy with the stat buffs, while Angela will crush as a caster DPS regardless.

I think the biggest flaw with my first run was making Hawkeye go Light side. I'm probably just not realizing how much the AI's spellcasting saved me in boss fights, but he was the least fun to use. Both Light and L/L supertechs sucked compared to how amazing Light Kevin and Light Angela's were (her L2 is soooo good on a close stack of enemies, especially since i think damage is still based off her intelligence score). I really should have gone Ninja....

...but the Ranger outfit is sooooo good

The micromanaging is not NEARLY as bad as SD3. I'm really just complaining about Hawkeye to complain. He was actually pretty solid and since I statted/levelled him more for utility and AI assistance, that's the role I got and had. I'm complaining because I made a support character, and he played like a support character, XD.

But still, his L2 and L3 supertechs were trash. Awesome, awesome at building up CS for the team with his power strikes, and I haven't played without Kevin/Hawkeye yet to know if it's much harder to acquire without their combo machine attacks blitzing enemies down all over.

It's much less micromanagy than SD3. MUCH less.

Like, Angela had no attack power and could still hit things for damage unlike SD3 where you'd only do that to build up MP or tech gauge because she'd only hit for single digits.

There are no bad classes, only bad players :P. That said, there are some combinations that are suboptimal, such as Dark Hawk + Dark Riesz.

I've been thinking about picking this game up but I've got some questions. Sorry if they're annoying but you guys seem knowledgeable!

Is the story drastically different depending on the main character you pick or is it the same beats with slightly different variations?

How long does a play through take and is there some sort of bonus for beating it 6 times? I know you might not have an answer for that one yet.

The primary antagonist, final dungeon and final boss are different depending on the route you take, otherwise the story beats are mostly the same between the three.

I think you can probably bang out a playthrough in about 15 hours if you're rushing, but about 25 for a normal one. No benefit for beating it 6 times, but there is a trophy on PS4 for doing all 3 routes.

There isn't even really a ??? Seed grind anymore since each Benevodon dungeon has a ??? Seed chest and I'm pretty sure you don't get dupe class items so you can get all class upgrade items just from playing through the game - best case get the ones you want by the 3rd chest, worst case 6

I guess if you reclass you may need new ??? Seeds but you only get 1 reclass item in the final dungeon and 5 known chests with them in postgame

Stat managing is a massive boon since now the game lays out what many points in a stat does what, and you can even restat in the Night Market (with a Cactus ability that halves the cost)

I can't comment on the ultimate gear yet though, and apparently there's new postgame ultimate gear?

Dont know about postgame equipment, but my team had no trouble with the seeds (thanks to Hawkeye and Cacti).

Spoilers about a change from SD3:
The forest that was next to the ancient city is gone. The ??? Seeds can be found once in nearly every Benevodan dungeon and can drop from high tier enemies. I dont know about high level since the enemies seen earlier in the game are still dropping Silver and Gold Seeds despite being level 50+, but the Bee Queen enemies in the Wander Woods dropped ??? fairly consistently. And Weapon/Armor seeds are now rolled into a low chance in Gold and a larger chance/exclusive drop from Rainbow.

It's weird to me in relation. The original? There's a good chance you'd finally be hitting L38 at the final Benevodons, but I hit 38 before I got to Sanctuary. Class changed at 48, beat final boss at 69. 20 to 25 hour game.
