Haha yeah, I started NG+ last night and hit class 3 before I left Laurent, and Im only like 2 and a half hours in.

I just beat the game with:

Angela Dark/Dark
Duran Light/Dark
Charlotte Dark/Light

Angela and Charlotte got so many abilities that improved magic and restored mp that it turned the post game to a joke. Angela could just spam the strongest spell until everything was dead. I beat Dark Rabbite on lv 73.

Finished the second run through the main story. Took about 6 hours. Still need to do the class 4 quests and stockade. Mirage Palace sucks.

Yes, carries over levels of characters (if you choose ones you've used before), inventory and money, plus you get a chain ability that gives you 300% EXP.

I also ended up enjoying the free item cost ability, I put it on my Hawkeye and set his strategy to use healing items whenever, ignoring stock

he can also just spam stat decrease items or elemental imbue items or the damage ones before the elemental spells have been unlocked yet

So a bit of a conundrum.

I saw that a new game plus playthrough can be pretty quick. And I guess that's some interesting story beat changes depending on you select, so I was thinking about starting Riesz. But ideally you partner her up with Hawkeye, which those two were connected via story. Buuuut I want to keep Angela in my party, which means if I run Riesz story, I'm basically playing the same three I did before, just with a new final villain in the standard game.

Started the third play through tonight. The Hawkeye/Riesz story really is so much better than the other two, Hawkeyes origin in particular.

WARNING:
There is a bug in the Mirage Palace dungeon that can permanently end a run, so if you're on the Kevin/Charlotte route make sure you back up your game so you can start that dungeon over if it hits you. I'm not sure if SE support has been convinced it's real yet, but their copy/paste response has been "use a guide" to people reporting it.

One thing of note, the permanent stat up items are limited to 10 per game, and that limit crosses over in New Game+, so think very hard on who you want to give them to.

Also, the PC version has a very active modding community. So far there are character model tweaks/swaps, eliminating the charge crystal sound, eliminating the quest markers, eliminating the red "attack is coming" zones, and a "very hard mode" mod that changes the stats of all the enemies (and can be customized).

Because they used Unreal Engine 4, the modding community has sprung up very quickly for the PC version. I'm not sure if there's a mod for it yet, but it's also possible to edit saves to go back to level 1 for New Game+ if you don't want level to carry over.

Basically, they took all the criticism about Secret of Mana's remake and took it to heart and it paid off very well.

Done max level Riesz/Hawkeye/Charlotte. They can rest now, except Riesz.

Now doing NG+ with Duran, Angela and Riesz.

I'm still on my first playthrough with Reisz and Hawkeye. I dunno who they got to voice Reisz but she's damn awful. She sounds like someone with English as a second language. Hawkeye defo seems to have the better story of the 2 though.

Okay so I bought this. It's great, except the voice acting, which I was actually in a panic to turn off after I heard it. Angela is my favorite character to use in SD3, and apparently now she's bonkers OP, so that's cool!

For this first run I decided to go full magic w/ angela, hawkeye, charlotte (magus, rogue, warlock) and I'm playing on hard. System is very different and a large improvement I'd say. Glad they didn't fuck with the music and wind up with a twisted ghoul like SoM!

now with Kevin/Charlotte route I'm not sure to main Kevin or Charlotte..... I already just did Kevin in my Collection of Mana playthrough... but I still wanna main him again in remake, think I'll just go ahead with him still. So 3rd run Kevin/Charlotte/Riesz... I want my Riesz backk

tho damn I really did have Angela nuking shit in this playthrough, Anise time-trial like 54 seconds lol

I think only 2nd phase had a Light weakness as well (I went Light Angela this run since Hawk & Charls were Dark)

so yeah once it got to Phase 2 she just gets obliterated

My 3rd playthrough Kevin/Charlotte/Riesz, just did my 1st class change for everyone so now I'm running the seeds: I got 51 ??? Seeds stockpiled so I should obviously get all I need right?

#1-23: Random alternation between Light Riesz items, Evening Star & Brisingamen
#24-51: ALL HOLY BOTTLE

interesting note I did class up Riesz first which led to the game instantly setting the first half of my seeds to Riesz class items. And yes I did class-up Charlotte before Kevin which explains the next batch instantly locked to her.......... BUT FUCKING WHY DID IT NEVER END, AND THERE'S NO REASON AT ALL THAT THEY WERE ALL LOCKED ON TO ONLY SET HOLY BOTTLE, LIKE YEAH THE GAME RECOGNIZES CHARLS WENT LIGHT... SO WHERE'S THE OTHER LIGHT CLASS CHANGE ITEM, LIKE HOW RIESZ RANDOMLY ALTERNATED AT LEAST FAIRLY

ffffffffff with the way seeds get locked the game might as well just dump 'em on NG+

my 2nd playthrough similarly screwed my Hawkeye out of the Ninja Master item but that was like ~30 items and at least provided every other class but that 1... even if it also had a long phase of Charls in like ??? Seeds 10-20.... but again, at least they randomly alternated between Charl's bottles! aughhhh

Huh, thats weird, in my second play through my carries over ??? seeds got me all 6 class items after using about 15 of them. I did all the planting after everyone had been awakened to class 2 but before getting anyone to class 3.

that's what I've done on both my NG+ runs but they've both been screwy, this one just moreso!

now I'm thinking I should've held the ??? Seeds and tried again after classing up the people who managed to get theirs

like if I only took the first 5 of 23 that were all Riesz's class items, then I class-up'd Riesz the ??? Seeds might've reset again, or at least the ones that were locked to her class item

oh well if I do a 4th run sometime I'll try to keep that in mind, I kinda wanna run Hawkeye/Riesz/Angela but I'll probably take a break (especially with Xenoblade coming up!)

The truth is I'm doing better with PHYSICAL ATTACKING STR ANGELA in hard mode than I was casting spells. I'm into the first dark class and everything, and the spells just don't hit as hard or as fast and safely as whacking things with a staff

also the AI just gets killed nonstop it's ridiculous!

my physical attacking Dark Duran in the first run was pretty crazy, but I don't really control him for the most part since I preferred my other party members

tho I did give Duran like 3 abilities about sacrificing a ton of defense for a ton of attack, plus some more attack boosters

Angela doesnt become a magic monster until she gets her ultimate spells in class. Shes still effective if youre making use of elemental weaknesses before then though!

And yes, the ally AI is abysmal, its probably the actual worst thing about the game.

I've just got the sword of mana and literally every boss fight so far has consisted of me quickly using the specials of 2 members and then switching to the 3rd to beat the boss while the other 2 die.

Okay yeah, about to clear the game with Angela/Hawkeye/Charlotte, and now everything is full beast-mode. Especially with Charlotte as a Warlock - she has both passive stat drops and fetid breath, which stacks with her passives to heavily debuff magic defense. Hawkeye's job is to feed scales to Angela and toss the occasional pumpkin. Angela's job is to blow everything up. I'm almost done my first run now, then I'm going to see how a kevin/duran/Lise party works out!
