Controversial pick but fucking Octopi, man. Getting to the top of heap isn't about having the sharpest claws or toughest fur. Its brains, and octopi are scary smart. It might take them some time to evolve to live on land but they'd pull it off eventually.

The apex predators would stay the same though as they aren't dependent on humans. We aren't even technically apex predators are we? We are our own weird thing since we aren't really in any natural food chain. If you meant apex animal that could reach our levels? Then it would automatically be a primate and after that? It would have to be an apex predator or highly intelligent animal that also lives in social groups with fairly long life spans.
