Supernatual detective movies, basically.

If it's unapologetic with it's themes and the stuff it shows onscreen, all the better.

Movies or TV series. I can also take recs on graphic novels, but I'm moreso looking for something to watch.

Angel. It's not all that detective-y, but he does do detective work sometimes. The gold standard of supernatural TV shows, in my opinion.

I haven't watched it, but I think Grimm is exactly what you're looking for.

Those movies were pretty great too

If your willing to try anime. The staples are gonna black blood brothers and blue exorcist. If you like darker tales watch shiki. Shiki is a vamp tale that just gets darker and more twisted. Kinda like the strain in anime form

Also the strain modern day vamps trying to take over with human coconspiritors

If you want funny. Stan against evil

Out of those, I liked Haven the best...

Poltergeist: The Legacy
Brimstone (which *also* only lasted one season; John Glover plays -- Smallville's Lionel Luthor -- plays the Devil)

The Kolchack the Nightstalker reboot (also canceled too soon) also fits the bill. The original series also involved supernatural mysteries, but the format was a little different. The original also had two movies.

The anime Ghost Hunt also works, but unfortunately that's *also* fucking short because it only got the one season. Most of the mysteries are several episodes long.

As for films, you have Master of Illusions. The episode "Cigarette Burns" from Masters of Horror also involves a supernatural mystery, a film that turns people into homicidal maniacs (the movie In the Mouth of Madness has a somewhat related premise and a supernatural mystery, but is campier)

I thought the movie kinda sucked, but I still would have enjoyed the sequels. And I was tempted to read the spoilers for the books.

Stan Against Evil was fucking hilarious, although some of the comic relief characters were annoying.

As for the concept as a comedy, Reaper is also an option. Both shows got canceled long before their time.

Someone mentioned Midnight Texas. It's set in the same universe as True Blood which nobody has mentioned.

While I never liked Bill, I liked most of the other characters and the series as a whole (Erik is one of my favorites). The books are very different but quite good as well.

Midnight texas is based of books as well...and also very different, which in this case was not a good thing for sure after the first season.

tbh, one of the show's long-standing problems was always figuring out what to do with characters who weren't central to main storylines.

Well I wouldnt put it all in scifi. You know how American horror story asylum had demons vs alien sub plot. The x files caters to plain consperacy theory, alien, trangenetics, plain inbred rednecks, ancient evils, god, the devil, angels, military superweapons, and just good ole fashion serial killers.

So yeah it was the creature of the week. Just make sure if you watch the first movie dont do it to around season 3. It revisits some prior plots and could spoil the atmosphere

The X-Files is pretty much why we have shows like Supernatural now. Prior the X-Files, you didn't really have the same level of running continuity with weird investigation shows that you do today and everything was a lot more episodic.

The show is notable for featuring a lot of seemingly-supernatural threats, although there's a lot of running scifi shit. If you want "scifi CSI," a better bet would probably be Fringe.
