I feel like too many companies have people in high positions who are only there because that were hired extremely early in that sites creation or have become incompetent.
They sit on the position for years because they cannot move anywhere else and forces a clog of competent people from moving up. Its a corporate monopoly. One of the reasons that companies like to layoff people over demoting or giving them a paycut is because it demotivates a worker and they may retaliate. That's why you don't see demotions or paycuts often, because it is usually better to lay them off if that's the case.

Demotions are a good way to get people to steal and plan on sabotaging the business.
