Judge not lest ye be judged. What an absolutely overrated cliche, right? In every moment on the internet, we are subjected to intense scrutiny and cruel, cold criticism for any corner and haven. Of course, there's a difference between Board 8 and the rest of the internet, and that is, quite frankly, that there are no immediate shock ratings attached to posts. No way to like posts. It allows fringe opinions to foster themselves and bloom into bizarre schools of thought. And because of this, Board 8 has become a breeding ground for some eccentric personalities.

Because I'm an absolute moron, I'll rate and talk about any user as nominated by you. The only rule is that you only nominate one user at a time. Feel free to disagree with me! I don't hold a monopoly on opinions. And, really, nothing is off-limits. If you want me to talk about moments in Board 8 history, or aspects of particular users, whatever it is, I'll rate it.

I admit to being pretty nonplussed by ertyu's behavior. There seems to be a driving motivation within him to become less and less a good custodian of the board. So many of his topics are, god, I don't even know what. Topic titles are cut off in the middle because, apparently, Vlado lacks even the motivation to finish a sentence. This is followed by some vague general statement that often just comes across as needlessly antagonistic to the universe at large. As I've gotten older, I find him less and less amusing. Why trumpet the lack of a career? Why bark triumphantly about failing to wash ones hands? Legitimately, it boggles my mind as to what this sort of base, banal trolling accomplishes. In terms of users who contribute negatively to the board, ertyu is probably near the top of the list, dumping topics in the way that a spambot fills my junk e-mail folder. It's virtually impossible to have any meaningful interaction with him, as far as I can tell. He complains about his youtube channel, one he does not link to in any of his topics by the way.

In the past, I believe I had a strong friendship with gravy, one that I did consider meaningful. Years ago, there was a user that came across as an intensely normal, goofy, yet occasionally insightful person. Over time, however, I've found that he has become more... unhinged? It's difficult to properly quantify exactly what the change in gravy has been, but he certainly became more belligerent and less open. The conversations dwindled and I began to find frustration in our interactions. As bad of a user as I am - and trust me, my hypocrisy knows no bounds - I can be extremely judgmental about everything I read on the board. Honestly, I think I have an adversarial relationship with every post I come across. It has taken me years to even become self-aware enough to realize that my own comments on any subject only serve to fuel pointless fires with opinions that are anything but valuable or valued. All of that is a caveat to say that gravy's posts have become awful. There was a time when I think he was a crucial piece of Mafia topics or Mercs topics, but his attitude has devolved into the sort of disaffected casual user that enjoys disrupting the board banality rather than contributing to a community. And that makes me a little bit sad. It's a far cry from the guy who I really was quite enamored with years ago, a fun-loving, hilarious and occasionally insightful person I used to truly call friend.

In the world of the Politics Topic, you either post or you don't. There's no in-between. Because once you start posting, you are pulled by a strand of clauses and punctuation into the black hole that serves as the intense vortex of that series. And that vortex's gravitational pull is built around self-masturbatory pseudointellectual bullshit that really serves no real purpose. Gaslighting and supposedly faithful attempts to eradicate misinformation are coupled with intentionally-crafted opinions designed to incite anger and response. Self-importance and winning seem to be the order of the day in those topics, and red sox is less of a human and more of user to me. That might seem like an extremely mean thing to say, and like I've said, I'm a pretty hypocritical person. There is a load wrong with my attitude and my history on the board, and I'll be the first to admit it. But I'd like to think everything wrong I've done has at least be honest to my character as a person, such as it is. redsox comes across as a false front, something designed to shield a soft, likely sensitive, interior that is battered around in the real world. On Board 8, posting gives everyone the opportunity at a pulpit, and I think a user like redsox clamors for that pulpit, that opportunity to have a little bit of control of a narrative, and in the effort to maintain a grasp of that limelight, warps from a person to a user, a caricature designed to grip tightly to the attention until it slips completely from his grip, so that his nails are digging deep into his own palms.

I think there are two sides two NFUN. One is humorous, often insightful. There's a wit within that noggin, but often it hides behind the same syndrome that a lot of users suffer from. It's that "Sit in the Back of the Class and Lob Verbal Grenades" syndrome, where you can be sarcastic and disaffected, saying your opinions without voicing your feelings. We all, from time to time, devolve into the facetious displays of thrown up hands, the displays of not caring, or taking everything as a joke. That's probably the worst quality about NFUN, which I find too bad because I think the person who often shines through that sort of facade is very interesting guy, one I wish I had the chance to get to know better.

I try not to hold people's grammar against them, but when your only role on the Board is to advertise news stories for no real purpose aside from garnering uncountable clicks, then you cease being a part of the community and you can be judged apart from the community. Full Throttle is a clickbait mill, churning out poorly-written "articles" devoid of any quality of craftsmanship. In fact, I take great umbrage with his use of the word "as". Clauses linked with the word "as" should have some sort of connection between one another. Full Throttle just shovels facts into sentences with no regard as to whether they help to enhance what he's presenting. Not that the material is deserving of presentation. Usually, it's a worse regurgitation of the Daily Mail or some other equally sensational organization. It takes a lot of time and effort, I imagine, for Full Throttle to put together these posts, and yet they receive so little traffic at this point that I wonder what's in it for him. There is a human being underneath all of the algorithm, right?

I would guess this is the user I spend the most time around, and yet every time I think I get a handle on myself, I feel as if it just leads to more self-questioning and less self-assured understanding. Oftentimes, I wonder if I'm even cut out for the board. Naturally, I'd like to think of myself as having some sort of redemptive value, and then I look back at my time on the board and I can't quite find anything about it that was worth mentioning or remembering. But my lack of self-confidence definitely undermines my ability to feel self-important and act out arrogantly to other users. That's just who I am, and despite my best efforts to not be a piece of shit, I continue to occasionally display shit-like qualities. I snip and snipe and snap at other users, I disagree with boisterous self-authority, and I derail topics with puerile banter and stupidity. I rarely finish a topic, and I probably disappoint more than I care to admit. But you know what? I like comics, so I guess that counts for something.

One of what I would categorize as "the normal users", Zen isn't some sort of foundational pillar upon which the board is built, but he does play the often-overlooked crucial role of just providing conversation to the board. Chatter is important. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about Zen. I also don't have anything particularly exciting to provide the other way either, but I read Zen's posts, so that counts for a lot.

I admit to being influenced by my circle of closer users quite often, and that likely shades my perception of Rock. As time has gone on, I've found Rock more and more difficult to relate to in terms of the APWT, which is where he and I predominantly interact. I don't want to call him a WWE apologist, as I don't think that's accurate, but he always feels to me as someone who is just on the opposite side of my positions enough to feel grating. I'm not saying I'm some sort of perfect paragon of position that should be considered practically perfect in every way or anything, but Rock too often needles me with his posts. Purely unintentionally, I'm sure. Often, it seems as if he doesn't take something seriously when I need it to be taken seriously, and perhaps the opposite is often true. I also tend to be highly critical of WWE and very lax when it comes to new ideas which are innovative and fresh, while Rock seems to hew closely to what I feel is a staid, overly conservative (as an adjective not a political position) understanding of sports entertainment. And so I think our ideologies clash and I begin to resent him for it because that's just how I function. The less you agree with me, the more it pisses me off, and I start to become Mr. Nasty as a result.

If there is one singular user whose very style of posting is designed in a think tank for the express purpose of pissing me off, where scientists labor day and night, tinkering with the vocabulary and flavor of every post so as to needle me just enough to be irked but not enough to turn off the computer and walk away, it's the former Hardcore Kid. Even the name itself seems primed to be herald a comment that will likely believe itself vastly more entertaining and insightful than it actually is. Look, I suck. I get it. I'm rude and judgmental and blah blah blah. But you can't honestly look at a single HCA post, filled with all of the substance of a Ryan Seacrest New Year's Rockin' Eve and none of the style, and tell me his posts don't smack of trying too hard to do too little. And I feel comfortable saying all of this because I'm fairly confident he has me - quite justifiably - blocked. Which is something I respect, because my posts are pretty fucking awful too. I think people in glass houses and all of that nonsense applies here. I can point out bad posts because, honey, I fucking make bad posts.

I like Metalmind a lot. Great user. I think he has a lot of insight to provide and while, sure, there are minor blemishes here and there that dot the sterling portrait I'm about to present, they are few and far between. Metalmind seems to genuinely dive into any topic he really, really cares about, and that's something I respect. He definitely has a passion that drives him to craft well thought-out posts, and on top of that, despite his passion, he'll listen to responses and instead of arguing, have a true dialogue. He doesn't butt heads too often, but when he does, there is at least an ounce of respect he offers to the user sitting on the other side. Ultimately, he's a good custodian of the board, even if he left the Rando-gauntlet high and dry.

And I'll take my scarletspeed7/7 rating!

Jesse, or ahirsch, was one of my favorite users on the board, but I think the occasional spats of drama got to him more than they even got to me. It's too bad because we shared so many things in common, and I always enjoyed our conversations about anything. We even worked together on a silly board project that ended up being one of my favorites. I fondly look back at our Fight Scenes project wistfully, wishing Jesse was still an active poster on the board. He has every once and a while reared his head once more and he always has nothing but nice things to say, really, until he disappears once more. I think one of the worst things about a message board is the ability for great users to suddenly and without warning disappear. It honestly can hurt a lot.

I really don't know Pun at all. In my head, I seem to recall that we had a negative interaction, which could very well be untrue and I've spent years just assuming something false is true. Which, you know, sounds very scarlet. But I really don't know the guy in the slightest. And that's saying something since I know he's one of the more fondly-regarded components of the board and has been since long before I arrived. So, yeah. That's your fault, Pun. I'd like to think Steiner and I are legitimately friends. At first, his brusque personality can be disarmingly off-putting, but as I've gotten to know Steiner, I've realized that we actually are fairly sympatico in personalities, despite being so different in some very major ways. We have oddly compatible senses of humor, and I think both of us can find enjoyment out of simple, otherwise dull things. And, quite honestly, I don't think we run out of stuff to talk about. Quite honestly, one of my favorite people on the board. I genuinely am thankful to have gotten to know him over the last couple of years.

Seemingly on a mission to incite pointless arguments through pure, unabashed trolling, Black Turtle proves to me that Board 8 is secretly Bored 8, looking for any reason to score points through virtue signalling to itself by trying to defeat or dunk on any bad faith argument it can suss out from within its number. That sort of self-righteous bright burning light of moral authority is always desperate for a score, and on the flip side, there are users that are addicted to the spot of attention, where they can fuel their own burning hatred for the trends of society by stoking the fires of easily-riled users that inject brownie points into their veins like Leo McGarry injected heroin into his eyeballs. At some point the cycle of drivel on the board always devolves into the personal, a muddy, murky ring carved out of the floor of the Board, where muck is thrown without abandon. And that's what Black Turtle wants. He wants to see the nastier side come out. That's his agenda.

Nothing negative to say here. KP is a good user that I think provides some well-articulated insight to the board, and he genuinely has a passion for video gaming and the contests. That alone puts him far and away ahead of Full Throttle. But beyond that, KP just smacks as a fairly honest user who is willing to pitch in and really do the dirty work of just participating in a community, talking with rather than at other users on the board. Good stuff.

Han and I have always gotten along pretty well, but over the last year, I've been privileged enough to really develop a great friendship with him, thanks in no small part to his great participation in my little RPG I run with Board 8 members set in the DCU. Han seems to have a genuine passion for everything he undertakes, and he's both hilarious and also earnest in his seriousness. It's a lethal combination, one that makes me prone to - gasp! - like a person. Sure, it doesn't help that he loves comics about half as much as I do (because, let's be honest, on your best day, Board 8, you couldn't hold a candle to me in the comics world. Let's fight, 1v1, Blood Gulch), but there's more to the greatness of Han than simple commonality. He honestly feels like a kindred spirit, someone who I could just hang out with when I'm bored and not feel worried that I'm not entertaining enough or sparking exciting conversation enough. That really means a lot. Being comfortable around someone is a vastly underrated quality.
