I used to think that they could cut through anything, but playing Star Wars: Fallen Order is making me think otherwise. I know they can't let you cut through anything in the game, but this lady just shut the door on a Sith lady and the lightsaber couldn't cut through some metal door.(this was a cutscene)

So are they really that weak, or is the game just not following the lightsaber rules very well?

They can cut anything given time. One quick slash is not going through the hull of a ship.

they can cut through generally everything, but they can't just do it instantly.

blast doors are meant to withstand, well, blast fires. moreso on a ship.

take the first movie, it took qui gon like a minute to even pierce a normal door. the fact that the sister slashing the door left a mark on the inside of the door was kinda too much.

hell, even the movies are inconsistent with how lightsabers can cut in general. vader chops lukes hand off instantly, same for when anakins limbs get cut instantly, and yet we've also seen people just get real fucked up and not lose limbs when slashed with a lightsaber.

Oh ok, I don't remember the Quigon scene, but I guess it makes sense.

If I beat this game on the normal difficulty, does that mean I'm ready for the other Soulsborne games on normal too? I did hear this is one of the easier Soulsborne games, but it's still a Soulsborne game...

it's a souls-like game in words only. it's more like a slower action hack n slash game.

That's entirely plausible even in the real world. Things like force of swing, hit location, angles, and degree of resistance mean that someone in a normal swordfight could potentially lose a hand (or arm) or not. No one attack would realistically do the same damage every single time.

I always thought it was kind of absurd in KotOR that you could parry a lightsaber with literally anything, a sword, vibroblade, gaffi stick, quarterstaff, whatever.

stop being pedantic to be pedantic

i know you watched the movies, you know exactly what i'm talking about

and force of swing or angle doesn't really matter when it comes to a lightsaber, now does it

I've read about how dangerous their power cores are. The hilts must be strong as fuck or every other duel would end with a mini nuke going off.

It absolutely does. There's a huge difference between a glancing blow that only grazes something versus a direct head-on impact. And the amount of force behind the swing is absolutely going to affect how deep something cuts.

Lightsabers aren't intangible magic that phases through things. It's pretty clear that there's always some degree of resistance when they hit physical objects. They're less like a laser beam that instantly slices through everything and more like a red-hot knife cutting through butter.

The angle of contact and strength of the blow would absolutely be the difference between cutting someone's entire torso in half and just sort of leaving a relatively thin scorched wound.

and which movies logic are you assuming that from

there's a stark difference in how lightsabers work in each movie just about

however, given that we've never seen a lightsaber cut something slowly, aside from a door, we can completely ignore the strength or force of the swing when it comes to combat.

though technically Vader chopping off Luke's hand was actually relatively slow, and from what would just be considered a glancing blow were it a normal sword, it was really just a flick, and just popped it right off.

It's not even a minute. It's still relatively fast even after they double to door security.
