Which game do you like more?

Seen these games compared in contest discussion so I'm curious about which 'underwhelming JRPG but released exclusive to Nintendo so it got a fanbase anyway' we prefer.

Definitely Bravely Default, despite the shaky second half. Octopath is painfully predictable and formulaic (every chapter except one has pretty much the exact same structure), and doesn't really do enough with its 8 main characters concept to justify sacrificing the grand story and extensive interaction between party members that other JRPGs, including BD, have. I also never really liked OT's art style, while I found BD to be super pretty. Both games have great soundtracks, but I like the music in BD slightly more. The first half of BD is wonderful, and even the second half has plenty of points in its favor, with challenging boss battles and interesting story and character development.

I havent played Octopath, so I voted for it since the 2nd half of Bravely Default is awful, and the game was just a bad version of FFV to begin with.

Two great games. Would give BD a 9 and Octopath an 8.5.

They're both good, yet notably flawed.

I really like how BD expands on its characters late game. The job system is also pretty solid.

...haven't played Octopath tho!

While I did see some disappointment aimed at Octopath, this topic is literally the first time Ive ever heard Bravely Default called underwhelming. It got rave reviews and was always well received. I think the poll results reflect that! I wouldnt call Octopath underwhelming either but hearing that applied to BD is just... odd.

However, I personally prefer Octopath.

Loved Bravely Default. Didn't even mind the second half that bothers others. Liked the extra background it gave to characters.

Loved both a lot, but Octopath stuck with me so much more.
