The gameplay itself was kinda meh, but the writing was the best of any game I've ever played. The ending was so, so good.

It was 9 at the time but the shitty third game brings it down to a 7 in retrospect

easily my favorite in the series. never played the first one but I was absolutely blown away by the second

ME2 was a step down in RPG mechanics, but was otherwise a vastly superior overall game.

I love the whole trilogy, but I gotta admit, the first game sucked ass In retrospect. The gameplay and controls and mechanics in 2 are so superior to 1. I tried to replay the first game and I cant do it.

Absolutely. Probably one of the best examples of a noble villain / anti-hero ever. By the end of it, despite being Paragon, I had to admit that his "the rest of the Galaxy isn't taking this seriously, and sometimes you need to break a few eggs for the greater good" angle was compelling.

The final shot with Illusive Man smoking in front of the giant star... Never felt so satisfied with an ending.

ME3 was by no means a bad game but they really, truly blew their opportunity to make a great character like him really integral and dynamic.

It's perfectly set up to be an episodic story.

Oh the story and world is the only good thing about that first game. Everything else sucks imo. Gameplay is clunky, the mechanics didnt work, overheating guns were not fun, auto save barely working forcing you to replay areas or save every 5 mins, the mako sections were bad, I really disliked the first game after I played the second and third

ME3 was a pretty huge step down (and not just because of the ending) from the sky-high expectations I had from ME2.

Yep. It feels like everybody working on it gave it theyre all to make the best game they could. ME3 was a massive letdown in partners after having 12 who were each fully fleshed out as well.

Im contemplating buying the complete collection on origin since its all on sale. I already own it all on ps3, but the performance is so horrid that i wont ever play it on that system again

Me2 was awesome, and the illusive man was a great character. But i have to say, it was overall the weakest in the series to me. Just barely.

Me1 gameplay was clunky, but man that story gripped me. From virmire, when you first meet sovereign , to end game was one of the most epic stretches of any game I've ever played.

Me2 felt like a giant sidequest to me. Instead of directly following that thread we kind of bounced to the collectors and eventually tied back into the main threat at the very end.
It was all about character missions. And while they were cool it just didn't carry the same weight. The "suicide mission" took a little bit away from the game my first playthrough. It was so easy to make everyone survive that i felt like i was building everything up for nothing. Whole game was sidequests meant to prepare you for the easiest mission ever, when i could have had a story about the reapers.
On a subsequent playthrough i made everyone die and it carried a lot more weight. So perhaps that part is on me.

Me3 i disagree with a lot of people. Up until the last 5 minutes i really believe it might have been the best of the series. It had some really great moments. Last 5 minutes were absolutely horrible though, nothing can save that.

ME2 made gun shooting of Mass Effect good. In returned we got a really limited skill tree and powers being nerfed because of how strong some things were in ME1 (mostly biotics). Gameplay wise it was a soiid shooter, but rpg mechanics were lacking.

Honestly the best part of ME2 did was the crew.

I've played through the first games many times, only played the second once in full. Never played the third.

Mass Effect 2 is good but it puts me on edge, game has no chill. Whereas I find ME1 very relaxing
