Stand-up comedian and podcast host Tom Segura is receiving backlash from wrestling fans for inflammatory comments made about the industry on a recent episode of his Your Moms House podcast he hosts alongside his wifeand fellow comedianChristina Pazsitzky Taking the anti-wrestling status quo of reminding viewers that the product is fake, Segura did not hold back during an unabashed takedown of pro wrestling and those who consume it: I think wrestling is for [expletive]. But so many people like it, it is the [expletive] stupidest [expletive], and I think youre a [expletive] tool if youre like hey man, its not fake! Its [expletive] fake, and youre a [expletive] idiot. Segura continued: The fact that guys are like man did you see The Undertaker?! Its pathetic. Its pathetic. Youre a pathetic person.

Needless to say, the wrestling world is not taking too kindly to the popular comedians remarks. Given pro wrestlings extreme niche appeal as a simulated competition, a necessary evil of pro wrestling fandom is enduring criticisms from detractors. Wrestlings passionate, at-times rabid audience is infamous for lashing out at those within the industry, but when wrestling is fake commentary comes from outsiders, it tends to strike a particular nerve.

I do agree with this tho. Also, it's still impressive to be able to sell some the moves and do all the chorography. 99% of the people insulting it wouldn't be able to do anything as athletic.

It was fake all the time but the switch after the 80s zany characters and the attitude eras cutting edge tv, fuck it. It's boring. 3 hours is too much. How WWE thought that was a good idea when wcw fell for the same thing I'll never know. With the way things are going I expect WWE to close up shop soon, within the next 5 years for sure, and if not, right after Vince kicks the bucket.

Part of the problem with "its fake" is the perception that people who say its fake, are basically saying "its fake, therefore something is wrong with you for finding value in it". The way people claim "its fake" is almost like a "why the heck would you ever consider watching it" sentiment.

So, fans get defensive, and they throw up the defense of "you can't deny the physicality of it", "its scripted/choreographed, the injuries are real", etc as a way to counter the antagonistic viewpoint of it being fake.

It's almost always a one way street. Wrestling fans aren't coming out of the woodwork randomly antagonizing non fans saying "Why aren't you watching, its not fake it's just scripted!!!111!!" . It's almost always in response of people just wanting to antagonize or pick at wrestling fans for no reason and in defense of that.

Just let people enjoy what they want to enjoy.

Authenticity aside, the "story" of it is atrocious and cringe worthy. It's so awful, it could premiere as a SyFy original like Sharknado. It's just the entire aspect of it, I don't watch wrestling for the same reason I don't watch Hallmark original movies. It's just pure garbage. The appeal is being terrible, and I don't like watching terrible when there's better stuff to watch. All the power to the people who can tolerate garbage entertainment but it's not for me. At least fans of it acknowledge it for what it is, shit tier quality.

When it comes down to it, it IS entertainment, and if it entertains you, then it's doing it's job.

Wrestling is fake, and definitely not for everyone, but the vast majority of the fans already know that and dont care. Game of Thrones is fake, so is the Avengers, Star Wars and any other scripted entertainment.

Also, stand up comedy is fake. The person tells scripted stories, with varying elements of truth, presented as real to gain reaction. Its actually very similar to wrestling. The fakeness of either doesnt diminish the entertainment of people that like it.

Why do people watch TV shows, movies, or plays? They're fake, too.

The correct word is "scripted." Every fan over the age of six knows that wrestling is scripted, but so what? When done right, it's a helluva lot of fun. Oh no, it's too low brow for you? Then don't watch.

If you want, I dont think any wrestling fan would say it (WWE especially) has nuanced storylines or stellar acting, but they enjoy it for what it offers not what it doesnt.

It's dumb to still be making those "lol it's fake ur dumb" comments. People always knew it was fake to some degree since pro wrestling has been around. There have been exposes in the 30's/40's/50's. The fans still were able to suspend their disbelief and get into the action and drama like with anything else.

It's not worth getting that mad over. He's just another comedian overreacting to be funny and get attention. There are comics out there who respect wrestling because they see the similarities between both occupations like being on the road and trying to win over crowds and such.

Thought with how goofy and silly and intelligence insulting most wrestling is now, there's some truth to his words.

Yeah it's really weird. I don't know what people mean when they say it's fake. Plays, movies, etc. Obviously the fights are scripted, no one is debating that. Wrestlers even talk publicly about when things don't go as planned (Mankind Hell in a Cell being the most famous). It's a real thing they do, just like all other performers. If you want actual combat sports those exist too. No one is claiming WWE is a sport. It has Entertainment right in the name.
