The concept of time and space does not exist in the Simpsons. Maggie was born before apu's octuplets and somehow they're all older than her.

My theory is that there's a simpsons multiverse and every episode is a different version of the characters. At times there's a shared history between universes when they reference events in past episodes.

That or the writers straight up don't care about insulting your intelligence

Yup, basically, they age characters as needed (think we've only seen a permanent age change with the octuplets) and due to the characters never aging, while technology does, birthdates and important event dates have to change with it...so really, the only part of a character's birthday that's set in stone would be the month/day, and I don't even know how true that is :P

2040/50 if I recall, since right now, I think it's still WWII...or maybe it changed to Vietnam recently...

Imagine if fictional characters did age.

Bruce Wayne would have died of old age decades ago. Peter Parker would be a grandpa by now.

I would say that most of the time, each season follows the same multiverse.
With a few exceptions.
And the Treehouse of Terror episodes shows how some of the earlier (and unseen) universes "ended".
