We were literally told months in advance that the fighter would be from a game that no one really cares about that much. There just wasn't any way for people to get hyped for someone like "Ribbon Girl" or whomever.

As someone who has spent the majority of their life dedicated to this franchise, I have only the mildest amount of interest possible. Playing a new character is always fun for a bit, but I couldn't care less about this franchise, and I'm worried that this character could be really, really stupid competitively if it's actually faithful to it's base game, so I really hope they are really bad for my sake

At least they're getting it over with finally. Glad they're not announcing anyone else yet either. Better to spread the characters out. When they announced the pass you had morons expecting 3 characters by the end of this year.

Well, they said all of the characters would be out by December 31, 2021. 6 characters over 2 years averages to 3 characters a year.

I feel like smash has enough characters already. Is there anyone who looks at all 500 characters and is like "nah I dont like how any of these play"

Give us some clones/echos/reskins. Thats what this game really needs.

This was before everyone released how bad COVID would be. The working adjustments (at least during the past few months and likely into the summer/fall) will likely result in the final character being released by March, 2022.

The pandemic is most likely why it's taking so long for new characters to come out. I even have a hunch that the Arms character wasn't even supposed to be first planned character of the pass and the other characters are second/third party but the pandemic is making communication difficult between companies so they bumped a first party to the start but so early they didn't have enough work done to make a trailer for the last direct.

Right, but he called people morons for thinking there would be 3 characters this year specifically when they revealed Fighter Pass 2, when at that time it was a logical conclusion.

It was announced in what Feb? The earliest we would've got character 1 was E3 and i highly doubt they'd have 2 more ready by December.

First Fighters Pass was announced in November-ish 2018 and Joker, Hero and Banjo were out within 11 months.

Sakurai said COVID hadn't really slowed down work on the DLC. That could've changed since his statement, of course.

Man, some of you guys are jaded. I played the ARMS demo and was like "Never buying this" but it's still a new Smash Bros character with the potential to be fun to play.

Sure the gameplay of the character could be fun but it's really hard to care if I give 0 shits about any of the ARMS cast. Unappealing designs with zero background or story behind them.

He takes a particular pride in his spring-like, pompadour hairstyle.

I guess the argument is like the "functions" one, or as I recall someone saying about Skullgirls, "Would you play the game if all the characters were anthropomorphic dicks?" I don't know, both things do matter, but I don't find Skullgirls' fanservice or the cast of ARMS so repellent that it ruins the gameplay.

Byleth has the best gameplay of any of the DLC characters IMO.

Would agree that Terry/Banjo/Hero are not that fun tho.

I like playing as all the DLC sometimes. Piranha Plant is probably the most boring to me, I rarely use them. But then it's something like Joker > Banjo > Byleth > Hero > Terry
