How much do you think these reparations will be worth? Should it be a cut check to all black people? Or just those that can prove beyond a shadow of a reasonable doubt that they were descendants of slaves? Not every black person in America is a descendant.

Also not to be racist, but if you cut a check to most people, they ain't buying land, or starting businesses. They going to spend it like a stimulus check and it'll be gone in 2 weeks.

Criminal justice reform(Stop and frisk being federally outlawed, stricter bodycam laws, more and stronger ways to hold police accountable, weakening police unions, outlawing for profit prisons, decriminalizing/legalizing weed, making less offenses Imprisonable, shifting resources to rehabilitation and community etc., ) is a better expenditure then cash reparations and more politically viable.

It helps everyone but it helps black people the most.

Also holy shit 15 trillion is literally about 3/4ths a years GPD. That much as an INITIAL payament is insane and not within the realm of possibility. It simply would not happen. Zero republicans would vote for it and even democrats would largely pass on THAT much when they also want universal healthcare and such.

And who sold the slaves off the coast of Africa (hint it wasn't white people).

So you want to punish an entire world for the sins of its fathers. Because you can't just magic $15-20 Trillion out of thin air to give to a disaffected group.

Not to mention the potential social ramifications. You run the risk of creating entitled people who think they deserve more and more even though they've been paid.

You're punishing an entire world, at best just an entire race (white), for the actions of a few of their fathers.

I get why you want reparations. I understand the appeal. But it isn't a magic cure all. Any amount of money that would be would cripple the world economy and guess what that would lead to. Racism against descendants of slaves, but more generally black people.

From the terms being discussed the qualification would be based on the proof/cut off date. As well as classification. So if the person had classified themselves as Black on government documents they'd qualify.

There should also be a database on all who qualified and received them.

Even under these circumstances there may be white people like the Rachel Dolezal's who are able to game the system, but that's just how the cookie crumbles. There's no perfect way to do it but it still needs to be done
