What do you think woulda happened if the Yellow Turban/Scarf Rebellion was successful?

The shockwaves of mini-coups until about 220AD would devastate the Chinese economy and not recover fully until the post-Jin era (as the Three Kingdoms era tapped out most the infrastructure)

If the Yellow Turbans won and China remained economically stable then... well,

actually - they probably wouldn't have done anything. They may have taken Turkey in the 600s and possibly the entire Ottoman Empire region, but it's more likely they'd continue to in-fight and rebellion until about the 1700s... Chinese history is FULL of endless warfare.

I used to be obsessed with the earlier Dynasty Warriors games. I think the last time I played one was on the PS2.... crazy how time flies

Dynasty warriors as a franchise even though the later games have been meh. 4 and 5 and their spinoffs were the peak.

I'd argue that 3 was the peak, myself.

My personal ranking is 3 > 8 > 6 > 4 > 5 > 7

9 is probably somewhere between 6 and 4.

6 had a lot of surface level issues, but had one of the most promising cores imo.

I rank 5 so low just because I felt that 3 and 4 were more energetic and had more content overall, especially with the Xtreme Legends expansions.

2 and 1 aren't really worth ranking, especially not the first game.

Technically all the games you mentioned are mostly set after the end of the Han Dynasty. There is also Koei's Rise of the Phoenix, which is about the founding of the Han Dynasty, Liu Bang's struggles against Xiang Yu.

^Semantics. The Han Dynasty is still a central catalyst for the Three Kingdoms era.

Yeah but 3 didn't have an empires although honestly it was more that I only played 3 in the store once. The first one I owned was 4 which was great fun.

I feel like the renbu system was garbage and I hated it so thats why I hated 6. After that they allowed weapon switching which really ruined the idea of playing as other characters when every character can basically be lu bu minus like 1 move.

I wish they would make a similar game but with actual deep combat where you aren't expected to cleave your way through 500 dudes by yourself but I guess mount and blade is as close as we are gonna get.

I thought Renbu was fine with a bit of work. The gauge sucked, but I liked the two interchangeable strings as opposed to the arbitrary number of button presses related to each charge attack.

The grabs, dodge roll, charged heavy, motion inputs(Strikeforce), and the usual running attacks/jump attacks really helped round it out.

One of my biggest criticism in regards to movesets is that they never really added anything from 4-forward. Just changed the moves themselves for flare over substance, even though they still pretty much functioned the same albeit more powerful.

The game doesn't need DMC-style combos, but they could've done a lot more to advance the combat than they did for a while.

Kinda surprised there wasn't a big mod for it. Maybe in bannerlord.

The only issue is the battle depth in mount and blade is way too basic. There's no objectives or stratagems or meaningful locations. All basic tactics of essentially ground units in front of archers on a hill or full squad of high tier heavy cav. I really wish they would overhaul battles and give you a reason to split your forces and hold strategic ground. Maybe have a base camp that can be taken and a similar reiforcement system thats in dynasty warriors with gates you capture that allies come from so the more you hold the more quickly you can get your reserves into the battle or just something to make every battle not exactly the same.
