Be white, know English but you can get away with not knowing how to speak Japanese, never teaching anything or didn't major in English in college, get chosen over Asian/Japanese Americans who knows how to speak Japanese and can speak/knows English on a college level then you can move to Japan.

You don't even need to live a Japan to get a feel for what life is like there. Apply to school, study Japanese and you'll eventually be able to study abroad in Japan.

I would really like to know a city like Tokyo. I could go there for two weeks maximum but It is such a waste to travel that far for a short period of time. Last time I was in Asia I stayed for a year, it's a three days trip from where I Live just to get there.

Outside of teaching English which is fiercely competitive your options are pretty limited. Sure theres plenty of other jobs but you're probabaly be ignored in favor of natives for the most part.

Although to avoid the competition altogether you could try living in and finding work in rural japan.

Japan was incredibly racist towards the US prior to COVID, I can't imagine they are going to be friendlier.

Some people can go there and adapt, but don't just put Japan in your mind thinking you'll be an instant celebrity because you like anime.

But yeah, I'm mexican, some years ago while I was looking for a working holiday visa I saw that Japan is very restrictive in receiving foreigners for other reasons outside of tourism.

Racist towards American?? I have always thought they generally hold a favorable views of Westerners especially among youngsters.

Can't be more racist towards Korean/Chinese and their own aborigines,

I found it so much nicer than the only home I've known, Hawaii. Things that I liked

  • The weather wasn't hot and humid year round
  • People are quiet and polite (no obnoxious screaming, loud talking, or Face Timing on the bus)
  • Very clean (however, there are very few trash cans on the street)
  • Convenience stores are great. The food at 7-11 is fresh and tasty :3 (they also sell adult magazines next to the manga there lol)
  • Very few homeless people
  • Cute animal cafes
  • Great food

Dang I got 10 minute ninja'd about asking ssjevot because I was making my list lol. Also I remembered they don't have porn at 7-11 anymore :<

That's not a really solid reason... But if you've lived in other places, I'm assuming you mean other countries, which does at least give you a good idea of what to expect. Some who want to move to another country don't even think that far ahead, hence why I would say the first step is always to reexamine your motives.

What's really sad. My college honors program (which Im in) requires you to study abroad. But we don't have a Japan program????????????????????????????????????????????

We do have Hong Kong, and also South Korea. I tell people I'm interested in Asian language systems specifically both Mandarin and Japanese. But lets be honest. IM A WEEEEEEEB

If you don't care about the wage, then yeah be an English teacher. That sounds like how most of them are forced to live. I'm a Research Professor, so my lifestyle isn't like that, but unless you have a PhD and speak fluent Japanese, this is likely not an option. There are other jobs out there, but outside of English teacher most are going to require you to speak Japanese. The key is to get a job first, get your visa sponsored, and then move. Coming here and then finding a job while on a tourist visa is probably just going to end up being a lot of wasted money.

Being white doesn't matter. Many English teachers here aren't white. If you check out Black in Japan on YouTube you will find out many got their start here teaching English. The small town where I live only has one other foreigner and he is a black English teacher.

However...I also learned the sad truth about Scottish Folds. Although they're adorable, breeding them is pretty cruel to the cats. To get their ears like that, they use a gene that messes with their cartilage. So it weakens not only in their ears to make them fold, but also in their joints. It can also cause abnormal bone development. Look at this :((

I used a dating site once in America for fun, got 5 matches in a week, all not good looking or interesting and just went back to dating people I meet in real life. I used a dating site when I first came to Japan, over 100 matches in a week. Meeting women here was so easy I couldn't believe it. Though I speak Japanese, so your results will vary. Though I ended up with a Japanese speaking Chinese girl also living in Japan after my harem arc (posted exclusively on LUE).

Yes I've lived in other countries.

I guess living in another places takes away the idea of the place and hits you with reality, well just the first time, really. I know it can get lonely, I know you can encounter racism, I know that is not all fun and games, believe me.

But hey, I really don't like my hometown, my brother lives abroad as well as in another continent, my mom lived with her bf who I really don't like because he hit on me once and that triggered the fact that I moved out of their house and have been basically on my own since then. So if I'm going to pay rent in a place that is quite unsafe, violent and behind in every sense, then I would like to see other options while I still can, but at the same time, ive known too many people that have been travelling their whole lives and at some point I would like have a home for a change, even though I don't know where that might be but I def don't want it to be here, because the only thing that is keeping me here is money right now. Even though I'm not making as much as I hoped to when I came back, two years ago now. Basically this topic was not serious, I will go there I can make some money and live decently. Perhaps you might not be familiar but having a decent wage in mexico that allows you to make enough to travel, own a car or a house is quite difficult and rare. So if I'm not going to be able to buy a house any time soon, I might as well keep on looking for opportunities in different places to combine the things I like the most: learning and visiting new places.

Bah, I hate posting seriously >.<
