Do you think it's safe to raise a family in America?

The United States is ranked one of the WORST in the world to raise a FAMILY while the UK and Canada didn't fare much better either according to a new research!!

America ranked 34/35 in comparison to the world's biggest economies scoring an F for safety, cost of living and work life balance and a D- for health and a C+ for happiness and education

Overall it was given an F with only Mexico coming out last

The Raising a Family Index was compiled from 30 studies in the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development which are advanced democracies with wealthy economies

Many european countries came out on top as America and South America ranked at the bottom

It was compiled by travel and family experts Asher and Lyric who said America's bottom position for the cost of bringing up a family state "Parents with average household income have to spend 31.79% of their income on childcare costs alone. Compare that to Scandanavian countries where households only have to spend 4% to 10% of income ot raise a well rounded child"

The top countries on this list spend over 3% of GDP on family benefis such as affordable childcare while the US spends a paltry 0.64%

They also say the US is the only country that doesn't require employers to offer a even a single day of paid maternity leave or paid vacation while every other country gives generous paid leave

A typical american employee gets 10 days of paid vacation a year while every other country has employees get 30 days a year of paid leave

The US is ranked 12 worst overall in education and 6th worst of math and only Mexico beats them for worst in overall

Lyric, an american mother of 2 said "I think if we, as Americans are truly honest with ourselves we might understand why the US ranks solidly as the second worst country to raise a family. My aspiration is that something will substantially change in my children's lifetime. There are things i love about this country, i hope we can all rise to the occasion"

Do you think America sucks for raising a family?

I bet you America's education is C+ mostly due to its overly expensive private schools and high end colleges. We've seen from recent events how much of the country seem very poorly educated. It's also the only nation I've been to that inordinately hates math, and I have a feeling it's due to how poorly they teach it in elementary school. Education in the US is a joke

But yeah I think being upper middle class in US is probably better than most nations though

I dont have another child just thinking of the cost of health insurance and day care. Some people pay 1k per week for day care and Ive heard of people getting taken out hundreds of each paycheck for an additional child. THAT IS FUCKED UP.

You fix healthcare, affordable day care and education and US will be back on track.

Out of the countries Ive visited, Turkey and Mexico should definitely rank below US. Its weird that they included Mexico at all, but whatever.

Also weird is that they refer to the Republic of Korea as both South Korea and as Korea and that it has Mexicos flag in the happiness index sheet. Poor editing doesnt bode well for this rankings attention to detail and therefore its accuracy.

There's only one Korea in the OECD, but yeah they made one mistake with the graphics. Also it's a country average. Turkey just might have more well off cities than Mexico

Yeah, it does suck to raise a family here for millinials. The government has not only made it unaffordable to own a house and earn a college degree, they've also devalued that degree to the point that it will probably never pay for itself.

Much less have children on top of that

This is what gets me. Republicans bitch about taxes in other countries for universal health care, but as a Canadian I don't have a 4 digit copay on top of what's already shelled out for insurance.

Who TF would choose to raise a family here if given the option to go to any country in the world

Also the only thing America has going for it is the easy access to goods. But Amazon will soon make that point moot once they improve their global shipping, within 5 or so years there will be legitimately no reason to live here if you have money to go anywhere else.
