youre telling me I make more a year than bezo?

Based on salary alone? Maybe. He can sell off a small percentage of his equity in amazon and bury the net worth of everyone here. But the notion that someone should be taxed on equity they haven't sold is some of the most braindead shit I've ever heard. People just see bezos is worth 178 billion and assume he's been making an average cash salary of 7 billion a years since amazon was founded because they have no understanding of finance but yet think they have the answers to all the world's economic problems. It's a fucking joke

THis is the thing though is Obama reinvigorated the economy post recession and bush. The recession actually happened when Obama took over. It was the fear he was going to tax the wealthy so the wealthy started nickel and diming everyone and got extremely rich.

Bill Clinton basically did the same thing with the whole internet bubble then there was the whole y2k scam. Progressives and then the conspiracy theories start piling in.

Obama never actually raised taxes on the ultra wealthy though. It was all a scare tactic. That the left adopted.

No, the value of assets have skyrocketed because no one wants to be in cash for fear that the dollar could collapse.

The whole, "renvigoration" of the economy has been driven by cheap capital at low interests rates for nearly 2 decades now. The rich get richer off of inflation because the value of assets inflate as well.

A lot of people got extremely wealthy out of fear. And a lot of people who already were got that much richer. And the middle class remained stagnant because most middle class people are working service jobs or whatever.

If the left is losing the middle in the Trump era I don't think those people are really in the middle.

Exactly.

"Moderates" are just closeted conservatives, and Democrats are actively losing the left by trying to court them over, y'know. The left. (Case in point: I am a leftist. I am writing in Bernie over voting for Joe Biden.) Need proof? Well, look at "moderate" Joe Biden's voting record. It's a fucking Republican's voting record. Biden's core selling point is also wanting to work with Republicans. The Republicans that are actively trying to kill us. And he has a track record of working with Republicans. Like this one guy named Strom Thurmond. Maybe you heard of him. He was MLK's archnemesis and basically switched from Democrat to Republican after the racists switched parties.

Biden has a 0% chance of victory because he does nothing to energize the left. Hillary at least was a woman (this helped her more than hurt) and supported policies that help women.

Tbh i suspect this is part of some fall out from this tweet:

Also Bernie attacked him the other day for being a billionaire, so I'm sure that got some Twitter leftists to start attacking him.

Progressives are usually better for the economy because it starts out innocent enough. People all go running to the same stuff like it's something new and jump on board. But then they realize there are crooked people out there doing the same thing. And usually the crazier you are the richer you get.

It's like opening the flood gates and there are always crazy people out there who want to get rich. And sometimes the craziest people really do and get rich really fast and just get crazier.

Technology and social media has become a legit reality is the thing. The issue is everyone is a jerk. A lot of these people were living in their parents basements not that long ago and really have to come down to reality.

THe left as it stands is gouging the right because they can and don't care. They want world domination and don't really care about the right at all. It's what the right did to them so they just do the same things in reverse.

I just think the idea that the left has to beg and plead and barter with the middle is weird. Like if they dont then the middle will just take its ball and go home. If they want to side with the alt right and Trump then I say go for it. As the saying goes, when someone tells you who they really are, believe them.

Is that really a strategy of anybody in politics though? I always assumed it was an online left thing to do.

But I think this is a consequence of mortality being so deeply intertwined with politics these days. It's sort of created a purity culture of a different kind among the left, at least online.

They are all trying to be nice now. Just watch the advertisements. Elections coming up. I think democrats are some of the worst sometimes though. Even worse than republicans. It's just the Streisand Effect on a cultural scale. The 'Think of the children' pearl clutching conservatives of days past did the exact same thing and lost the cultural conversation exactly because of it. It's the same thing, nothing new. Just replace 'Satanist' with 'Nazi', 'Degeneracy' with 'Oppression' and 'Jesus' with 'Justice'.

Different value sets and priorities, same game of alarmist moralising and soapbox pontifications. People generally don't like being told what to think, say or do so history shows, in free societies, if you play that game, you lose.

I'd watch for the GOP to capitalize off the unpopularity of political correctness just like Democrats did against the religious right in the 90s. They're not unaware that their voter base is aging into irrelevance and they'll have to find the angle to survive into the future. And that's pretty clearly it

I think a big part of it is history too though. Like, the DNC isnt great, but I cant think of any other major political leaning thats done better towards marginalized groups of people.

libertarians were exactly advocating for gay marriage or anything themselves, at least not that I can recall.

So for a lot of people theyve grown up where political leanings often were indicative of someones moral perspectives. It wasnt until very recently that things have become more open and mixed so honestly I think its mostly just a remnant of those times. Likely gonna be a a generation at the least before that subsides bar any insane events occurring. All IMO of course.
