Let's switch gears and talk about Nintendo and their insanity.

Nintendo is porting Mario 64, Mario Sunshine (Mario with a water gun) and Mario Galaxy 1 (Mario in Space) to the Switch with upscaled visuals and reworked controls. It's for Mario's 35th Anniversary which is cool.

Now the insanity...

First no Mario Galaxy 2 (Mario still in Space) included in the bundle. No one knows why, but okay. Then these A******** say that if you don't buy the game by March 2021 then you'll never be able to get it again. A damn 6 month sale then it's over forever, yeah they can go to hell.

Why does Nintendo always do this artificial shortage crap? Every single big ticket product is a struggle to get. The Wii, 3DS, Aniibo, The Switch. It's old and I'm sick of their insanity.

That's a lot to unpack.

First, I completely agree with the complaint about things being a limited run. I think it's *supposed* to make it more special because it specifically ties it into the 35th anniversary, but anything available via... eshop (?) should be permanently available via eshop. And there's certainly enough demand for a physical release to sustain a large scale release. I know that I'll probably going physical and, tbh, this time they actually have me because I can't wait for a sale of some kind and it might be difficult picking it up down the road.

As for leaving out SMG2, I don't get it either. For that reason alone, I'm somewhat tempted to not pick up the package. (Well, that and I own all of those games already, and haven't played SMG2 on the Wii.... and I'm not sure I ever finished SMG1. And I'm pretty sure that if I buy it, I probably won't play much of it anyway because, as already noted, traditional gaming is more or less dead to me.)

Some of the other stuff from that direct (I didn't watch the full thing) had me momentarily excited as well, but do I really need or want another All-Stars release? That weird Mario Kart thing looks cool, but would I ever fucking use it? And yeah, the Game & Watch looks great... but I already have SMB1 on the 3DS (as well as the GBC version) and how much do I play that?

You know, for years I thought I'd stopped doing a lot of this because I was busy all the fucking time. But ever since having time thanks to being furloughed (again, fuck you very much, Ned Lamont, you piece of shit who should have lost that political race the same way you lost those other races), I gradually realized that the enthusiasm is just gone (and again, looking back at my gaming time-line, it seems pretty clear how I lost it)

And honestly, even PoGo I think I just play more out of a sense of routine than enjoyment.

CyborgSage00x0 posted... But I still have both SMG and the DS64 one (and never cared enough for Sunshine to resist it) that I'll probably pass.

Mario 64 is the one thing that kinda makes the bundle appealing because I hated the DS remake and I kinda want it in the different format rather than relying on the N64 (I bought Pod Racer on Steam for the same reason... well, that and it was only $3 or $4.... and then played it once and, despite enjoying it, just never went back)

I won't be getting a Switch anytime soon but I would be pretty pissed if I do get one but miss out on that game. Mario Sunshine was a lot of fun. Galaxy was too. I didn't have a 64 so barely played Mario 64.

I think Sunshine was the first non-spinoff Mario that I didn't like. It was certainly the first core title I didn't finish (although it kinda felt like a spinoff in general given the waterpack)

Granted, part of my dislike was that it was that it introduced Bowser Jr whereas I was a Koopaling fan. Honestly, rather than go with Bowser Jr, I would have greatly preferred that they just highlight different individual koopalings between games. So not only did the game use a character I disliked, but it also changed the status quo going forward.

Papa Vince has decreed from up high from his mountain in Connecticut that no one is allowed to make money off the clock without his permission, even if they're using their real name. Basically, by October 2nd they won't be able to use Twitch or YouTube to stream and possibly earn extra revenue or exposure.

My thoughts are that WWE is about to start an official Twitch channel and they don't want a bunch of smaller streams, or possibly larger sreams, competing with the Official WWE Stream. Also, as we've discussed earlier Vince doesn't understand the modern world and hates and wants to squash everything he doesn't understand.

He's an old man yelling at everyone to, "Get off his lawn."

I watched Seventh Son last night and, jfc, what a movie.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seventh_Son_(film)

First off, it purportedly had a $95m budget, yet it has the look and feel of a Syfy Original. What'd they spend that money on, enough hookers and blow to kill Charlie Sheen?

Second, when the film starts, we're introduced to the characters of Master Gregory (Jeff Bridges) and his-then apprentice (Kit Harington). However, instead of using Jon Snow, they almost immediately kill him off (and don't bring him back) and replace him with a new apprentice played by Ben Barnes (not really spoilers because it's right in the trailer. It was kind of the ultimate WTF choice, especially since Kit's performance was a lot better (in that his acting in the film seemed tolerable). Looking it up, Ben *may* have seemed like the bigger star at the time, having played Prince Caspian in the Narnia films, but his career seemed to have hit a bit of a snag afterward; he moved from film to tv, playing Billy Russo in NF's Punisher and a character on Westworld.

And the acting and dialogue was almost unbearably bad, the action sequences were campy garbage, the CGI ranged from good-for-tv (bearing in mind this was a theatrical film) to Hercules: The Legendary Journeys quality, the plot was rambling, the setting felt like it was out of H:TLJ, and there was a near-complete lack of focus. I will admit that I kinda liked some of the witches' character designs and the witch-dragon concept was neat (all of the pure-blooded witches could transform and most of their alt-forms were dragons).

Granted, I'm sure a lot of the problems come down to the source material -- a podcast-released novel (a concept I'm still trying to wrap my head around) created by an author who had been repeatedly rejected by publishers. However, even then it's kinda inexcusable, because $95m should have been enough to polish this turd until it shined (although, I suppose, the budget isn't absurdly high for what was probably intended as a blockbuster). If the problem was the CGI, they could have cut something and used the run-time to actually explain some shit because they never go into the significance of the Seventh Son within the movie's lore despite constantly making a big deal about it.

Oh, and oddly enough, the movie's witch-hunters are called "Spooks" (and the book's title was The Spook's Apprentice... and apparently it was a working title for the film; I'm not sure if they thought Seventh Son was more intriguing or if it was just a matter that spook has some history as a racial slur) and right after this Kit Harington starred in a film with Spooks in the title, but it was a spy thriller instead of a fantasy.

Vince doesn't care. His legal team is good enough that the threat of having your ass dragged through court for years, costing you hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees, is usually enough to get people to back down even when they're legally in the right.

It's basically what they did to fuck CM Punk over.

He fired a hundred employees to save a little extra cash, in a year where they were making record-breaking profits that wound up being nearly four times as much as they projected for the year.

And as Lio Rush pointed out, when he was appearing on the main show, in front of thousands of people and millions of viewers at home, half the time he could barely afford travel expenses based on what the WWE was paying him - and the fact that the WWE refuses to cover travel, medical, or other incidental business expenses for employees (like pretty much every other business is legally required to).

Oh, sorry, I forgot. The WWE doesn't have "employees". They just "independent contractors". Independent contractors who aren't actually allowed to contract any independent dates. Or make independent appearances. Or use the Internet at all, apparently.

I'm pretty sure Vince doesn't give a single solitary fuck if most of his wrestlers starve to death 15 minutes after they leave the company. And the only reason he doesn't want them to die while they're still IN the company is because then he won't have them there to eventually job to Roman Reigns.

Zeus posted...

They almost certainly didn't agree to no outside media accounts of any kind, because those things are a relatively new phenomenon and the WWE has never really been tech-savvy enough to be that ahead of the curve on those sorts of things. WWE might want to start adding those sorts of clauses to contracts NOW, but I doubt anyone who signed prior to this year has anything resembling that in their contract, and the WWE would have zero legal grounds to prevent them from doing so.

The only real leverage they have is if they're using WWE branding. In other words, Alexa Bliss can't have a Cameo where she gets paid to say hello to fans and Xavier Woods wouldn't be able to appear in UpUpDownDown, but Lexie Kaufman and Austin Watson could.

The real issue is that WWE will just leave the unspoken threat of "If you don't play ball, we're going to job you out for the next [insert number of years left on contract here] and ruin you as a draw" hanging in the air, and then expect talent to fall in line out of sheer terror.

The irony is, considering just how many wrestlers DO have somewhat successful outside ventures right now, and how pissed off some of them are about this - along with the extremely de-politicized nature of the locker room these days (and the threat of AEW as competition), this could do more to help engender a grass-roots movement in the company to establish the wrestler union that Vince has been scared shitless of for 30+ years now.

There's been talk that a number of people backstage have sort of been getting together to discuss this and stand up to Vince over it, and that kind of unity could be very, very bad for him. So my suspicion is that he might have to back down on this (or at least modify the rules) before it becomes the rallying point around which a LOT of the last year's dissatisfaction starts to congeal. If he's clever, giving in on this issue would potentially appease people enough to offset the already-existing issues people have over Covid testing and piss-poor booking and the firings and so on.

Uhhhh...? A lot of companies don't cover travel. My brother has worked in sales most of his adult life and I can't recall one place that actually comped him for stuff like gas despite being on the road almost all the time (he was told to use it as a tax deduction).

I meant businesses like theirs. Could you imagine NFL players being expected to book their own flights and bus transport to games?

It was sort of meme a while back, when Bayley was in an interview and mentioned paying for her own travel like it was no big thing, and the interviewer (who was a general news person not a specific wrestling-focused reporter) was kind of astonished/horrified.

lolwut? Contracts come up every several years and, in general, much of the current roster started with the company after social media was already big.

The company is run by a man who hasn't watched a movie or TV show since the 1980s. Whether or not something is popular doesn't really matter if the WWE as an entity doesn't realize something is popular, or understand why it's popular. As we speak, they're currently running a storyline that basically boils down to "Shane just watched Fight Club for the first time in 2020 and is now copying the entire movie."

The WWE is notoriously slow to react to pop culture trends or fads - and then taking advantage of them extremely poorly even after they DO realize what they are. Their obsession with social media as a whole only started years after most younger people were long since familiar with it, and they STILL don't do as much with Twitter as they could if they were more proactive.

The punchline to this particular joke is Tout - WW basically realized that Twitter and Vine were popular about 4 years after everyone else on Earth, so they invested heavily in Tout and tried to monetize it in a similar fashion. Which worked out spectacularly well for them.

It's part of what some people theorize is behind THIS particular tantrum - the idea that WWE has finally figured out that streaming culture exists as an entity, and wants to establish its own platform via WWE.com where they can have their talent stream on their own service (which would almost certainly be inferior), so they can skim off the top (and the bottom, and the middle). With the other theory being that they're just sick of people like Lana or AJ Styles badmouthing the company during their streams and kind of want to shut down any pretense of wrestlers having out-of-character contact with fans at all.

I have zero doubt in my mind that no one high enough in the company to actually establish policy had ANY idea what Cameo was prior to a few months ago. And I'd say the exact same about Twitch, though Bruce Prichard might know what that is mainly from working on his podcast with Conrad.

Hell, I'd be willing to bet my house that Vince barely understands the concept of YouTube as we speak.

Zeus posted...
Yeah, but who cares about Lexie Kaufman and Austin Watson? =p

Depends on how deeply people are into kayfabe.

Arguably in Xavier's case, more people might care about him in the context of UpUpDownDown than people who care about him as a member of The New Day on WWE TV.

But for the rest, it's mostly a question of whether or not you like the idea of someone who looks and sounds exactly like Alexa Bliss wishing you happy birthday in video form, or if the only way you can value that video is if she explicitly says "Hey, it's me, Alexa Bliss!" in it.

The tricksy thing is, decades ago wrestlers were mostly treated as if their characters WERE who they were, and they were sort of required to maintain kayfabe forever and everywhere, but the modern industry is so outed that the perception of most wrestlers is that they're more like actors than they are MMA fighters or other athletes. So people become less fussy about whether they're interacting with the actor or the character.

Even if we acknowledge that INTEREST in that person almost entirely stems from the character they play (which is true in most cases), that doesn't give the employer the right to restrict the public behavior of that "actor" for the rest of their lives, so long as they're not explicitly using company trademarks. WWE's legal right ends the moment those people stop using their kayfabe names.

And again, for the most part, it isn't the LEGAL right that the WWE falls back on in these cases, as much as the implied threat of what they can do to you punitively regardless of whether or not you're legally justified. WWE has a pretty big dick, and they're not afraid to swing it.

I hope you all had a great Labor Day. I went to dinner with Oreon and watched him eat a half rack of ribs in under a minute. I was scared for the already dead cow and his fingers too. The macaroni didn't fare very well either. (A shike bowl in two shovels into his mouth.)

While we were at dinner a Twitter spy broke the news about the Xbox Series S. (Note: Going forward I'm not allowed to refer to the Xbox Series X as the Sex Box instead it will be called the "Mini Fridge")

The Mini Fridge has a little brother, the Series S or as we will call it going forward "Bluetooth Speaker." The Bluetooth Speaker will be 299.99 and do things just not as well as the "Mini Fridge."

Your move Sony!

It used to rain in CA (at least in the bay area) cept we had a drought like the last 7 years I was there (and I moved to Gilroy CA which didn't have much rain anyway.)

In my first 40 years or so, 30 of them in the bay area, I had more rainstorms then I have in the last 5 here in WA though. It freaking DRIZZLES all the damn time, but it hardly ever freaking rains. It's annoying AF.

I've been watching Super Hero Girls, which is generally pretty shitty (while I'm obviously not the target demo, it still seems more like a quality issue) but every now and again it has some moments that make up for all the crap. The biggest payoff so far has been Supergirl rebranding herself as Power Girl, with an on-the-spot explanation for her identity

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6e9Ucxoa4ss

I also enjoyed the text exchange earlier in the episode when the news first reports that Livewire killed her (before Kara decides to use the opportunity to create a new superhero identity)
"Clark: You ded?
Kara: Nope
Clark: Thumbs-up emoji"

Honestly, I wish they'd just gone with Power Girl all along (since it's a better fit for the character's personality), but I guess Supergirl is the more recognizable property and thus easier to use for promoting the show.

That's one of those things I always find funny. People have this mental image of the Pacific Northwest as just constant rain, but it's more overcast and drizzle.

NYC actually has a higher mean precipitation per year than Seattle does, because while it doesn't rain as often in NYC, it almost always rains harder when it does.

Microsoft blinked first and announced that the Mini Fridge is 499.99 and releases on Tuesday November 10th along with the Bluetooth Speaker.

I'm still waiting on Sony.

My guess is 499.99 as well.

Also, **** earthquakes. **** hurricanes too. If this virus doesn't kill us, mother nature will. (Which is an extension of mother nature's reach.)

Loved that movie. Defoe really should have had an Oscar nom, those monologues were amazing.

Something that's funny about that movie? The trailer for it is so hilariously mismatched with what the movie is like, it's painful.

I'm standing firm in not watching trailers anymore, and just listening to what people are talking about.

That's one of those things I always find funny. People have this mental image of the Pacific Northwest as just constant rain, but it's more overcast and drizzle.

Crazy us, thinking of drizzle as rain... >_>

It's not rain unless you can hear it hitting your AC/window.

Which trailer? I thought the main one hyped me up properly.

Sony is still awfully quiet about the PS5.

Ubisoft has a press conference later today, (Those rumors of a new Prince of Persia, which I'm excited about, are going to be confirmed.) and that probably stopped Sony from responding today. Still Ubisoft probably won't show us Beyond Good & Evil 2.

Then Apple has a press conference next Tuesday to announce their new line of slightly upgraded over priced products, which leaves later next week, probably Thursday of next week to announce the price and release date of the PS5.

Stay tuned.

Also, I have Kansas City beating Houston tonight 38 - 31 in an opening night shootout.

I just assume they want the day for themselves, and not have to share the headlines with Apple.

I was right about the new Prince of Persia, but it's a remake instead of a brand new game. I was also right about mot hearing anything about Beyond Good and Evil 2. That game is deader than something that's dead.

She was cute when she was younger (although very flat-chested). At any rate, she played one of my favorite characters on GoT (although I had a lot of favorite characters on that show...). Also just realized she was in a Doctor Who episode ("The Crimson Horror") that had a gimmick I kinda liked. Not sure how I didn't pick up on it.

All in all, she hasn't done that much stuff I've seen, although a few series I'm familiar with (like the (not Marvel) Avengers).

The Chuwi Larkbox I backed on indiegogo just arrived. It showed up with a bone stock win 10 install that I'm going to spend all night catching up to my laptop...but holy shit, it IS a fully functional PC the size of a HoHo as far as I can tell at this point.

I'm limping along with an on screen keyboard to get it set up because I don't have a BT keyboard laying around...but damn.

I love living in the future.

I didn't think about her breast size when the lady DIED. It's a bizarre comment that seems out of place. She was also like 90. I'm just not sure the point or the value.

Love the concept, but I don't necessarily see a huge benefit. Although the size makes it more portable, it it seems to lack many of the other capabilities of a laptop when it comes to portability.

On a conceptual level, it kinda brings to mind those all-in-one pcs where the whole unit is in the monitor (one of which I picked up a while ago... only to realize that the previous owner didn't get rid of their shit so I can't log into it to do a factory reset and nothing I've tried has worked. I'm also worried that if I factory reset, it'll have an RFP or whatever that security measure is called that stops me from using a cell phone I bought because it wants an account associated with the old login)

ffs, I was very specifically talking about the photos when she was of an attractive age. And it's hard not to think about when one of the photos in your provided article was a guy whose cane is pulling on her bikini top. Where do you think the eye is going to be drawn in that circumstance? If you didn't want people to think about it, you should have picked an article without this photo:

Because that's very hard not to notice or remark upon.
