Did you like the monster of the week episodes or the continuing story episodes more?

While I do like the continuing story, I like the monster of the week thing. At least for this show... It might be different for others...

Both. But most of the time when shows do both they don't do enough "monster of the week episodes."

Both.

I mean, I like the both, too. But which one do you like more between the two?

That's also true. But I guess that makes sense depending on what the story is about at the time...

Depends on the show. Plus it's worth noting that Supernatural's MotW often tied into the overarching story. However, since Supernatural's overarching plot often sucked (it kinda got interesting with the Leviathan, but they rushed that), the stand-alones tended to be better than the continuity episodes.

It can also depend on how the episodic content is handled, since for some shows it feels more like filler.

Conversely, if something goes from being generally episodic to having an overarching story, the overarching story will feel out of place (and it generally also sucks. Shibito no Koe wo Kiku ga Yoi is a great example. Two standalone stories kinda set up a larger, continuing story that took over the entire final volume... and it was garbage)

I like an over-reaching story, but with motw thrown in every so often, if it has to be just one or the other I'd go with over-reading story personally (as long as its good). MoTW only really works well for me if there is a story behind it or progress with the characters over time etc, otherwise I get bored.
