My assistant manager is retiring in a week. I like her, but I actually don't know any of her interests.
However, I was on a bullion website last night thinking of what to get her(never shown interest in coins or bullion but investments are universal), when it hit me. Her last name is Platt. Ah, you see where I am going with this? I hope nobody else I work with thinks I am upstaging their gifts, since I imagine I would have spent the most. However, the pun is too good(Platt/Platinum) that matters more than money ever could. Plus, for like a couple of days I will get to hold some Pt in my hands! ... Copied to Clipboard!

I actually bought 2 grams thinking one for her and one for her husband, but it seems weird because I don't know her husband and he doesn't work for us. Is that weird? I can always keep the other gram myself and lament at how I a) paid for shipping and b) used a credit card thus not saving 4% on the cost....but that would be quite a burden to bear.

Assuming she knows about your affinity for this kind of stuff I think it's awesome. It's thoughtful on top of the pun thing. If you haven't shared about your metal collection or anything then it'll just be seen as kinda random. As for upstaging everyone just say it wasn't that much only if they ask or suggest the price is high, it's not that expensive anyways and I doubt anybody looks up the price if you downplay it.
Don't give one to her husband though, that's freaking weird. Either keep it or if you really wanna give her both tell her one is a "pass it on" to get somebody else she knows interested in precious metals. --- My friends call me Vee. I'm not your friend, buddy. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Weird and off putting to buy them an investment that ties into their last name? I don't know. Seemed like a sorta outside-the-box idea.
Maybe they will be idiotic and throw it in a junk drawer. I don't know. If they choose to do zero research into the value of the piece beyond what I tell them, oh well. ... Copied to Clipboard!

And yes, she knows I love coins and silver, so bullion is in my wheel house. I talk about it a lot. The second one for her husband might be weird, I may reconsider that and just keep it myself.

I feel like this gift is a slam dunk, regardless of how she feels about precious metals. Her name is Platt, this is PLATinum...I mean at least that part should be good. I could get her some dumb coffee mug with her name on it or some other trinket. This gram of platinum is an actual investment which has rising and falling prices. Just between when I bought last night and today, a $10 difference in platinum prices per ounce. On a gram it doesn't matter much because thats a few cents difference, but still.

To note about gram metals(Ag, Au, Pt, Pd, etc)
The price per gram is the price per ounce *32.15 / 1,000 That is the spot price per gram. But you generally cannot find them for that price as buying metals in grams is not a very efficient way, and the premiums are kinda high. So the spot price of a gram and the price you pay per gram is different. There are also bulk discounts and check discounts on bullion sites. It may say "as low as $35.50 for a gram" but that factors in you buying over 1,000 of them and paying with a check or electronic check. If you just buy one and pay with a credit card you are looking at $40+ per gram (just examples and not based on real prices) ... Copied to Clipboard!
