Welcome to the King of Fighters 2020 (NOT MERCS) Simulated Character Battle Tournament!

The game is simple. The two* listed characters are placed in an (imaginary) location with a variety of (imaginary) environments, kind of like a picture in a child's schoolbook that describes different types of geological features. Within a ten mile radius, there is an (imaginary) urban downtown, exurbs, plains, snow-clad mountains at the edge, dry plains, etc. Fighters start wherever is most appropriate for them, but feel increasingly compelled to seek out their opponent and fight. Strong-willed fighters can try to hold out in their chosen environment for longer... eventually, all will succumb and actively search for the other to battle.

To participate, just vote in bold for whichever character you believe will win. Giving reasoning is optional, but please be polite and read what others have said and carefully make your decision. I'll ping the nominators (they can opt out) to give arguments if they wish.

Oh boy, here we go.

In-game Maxwell has the ability to summon lots of objects (generic mostly, but this also includes a ton of characters from DC Comics) into existence simply by writing them in his Magic Notebook. It could be argued that these are watered down versions of those objects, of course - him summoning the Anti-Monitor doesn't automatically mean the Anti-Monitor from DC canon is there, or that the summon will even stay loyal to Maxwell. Also he can summon things like nuclear bombs, black holes, etc., though he's also affected by them. But that's a starting point.

Maxwell can also imbue his creations with various adjectives. He can also imbue adjectives onto things he hasn't even created, including himself.

This is the big thing though, and if NFUN wants to not count this, I can't blame him: when the Scribblenauts/DC crossover game came out, they published a comic book where Maxwell goes to the DC Earth and engages with various heroes and villains. And...well, they gave him some stuff.

Maxwell is just some kid, though he may have faced monsters before, they were always basically these cute paper doll things and nothing like what the monarch of angmar is.

The Nazgul fear aura leaves him paralyzed and unable to even write a word in his book and he is dispatched easily.

The Witch King doesnt start anywhere close enough to him to prevent him from making himself invincible, and his fear aura is not strong enough that it prevents all actions (plus, fearless potion)

This is another case where terrain matters. If they, say, started in the same room then I could see Maxwell freezing up long enough for Witch King to get a cheap kill.

But here they're likely to encounter each other from range (especially if the Witch King is flying - does he get his mount?) and Maxwell will have time to make himself fearless and then summon Cthulhus or whatnot.

I don't buy that Maxwell automatically makes himself fearless if he has no idea what his opponent is capable of. That said, I still think he takes it pretty handily, even without the comic feats (he turns the sun red! The whole sun!).
