Like we've been around the new tech start-ups enough to know when a new one is just plain old doing something to erode our civil liberties or mine our data or use non-competitive practices to build a monopoly, right?

Evil is a bit too black and white of a term for what this and most other companies who routinely get sponsored are. Certainly no paragon of virtue, they're mostly just trying to maximize their audience. Their service seems like a reasonable fit for some folks, not so much for others.
As far as ethics are concerned, I'd be a bit wary, but not too much more than the average modern internet experience justifies. --- There is no shame in not knowing; the shame lies in not finding out ... Copied to Clipboard!

I dont think ive ever heard of them before this topic.
from like briefly looking at Wikipedia it just seems like a thing that aggregates coupon codes or something? I dont think it needs a more insidious purpose than making money through that. I guess theoretically it would be collecting the data of everything you purchase while using it so they could use that data for... selling you other stuff probably. --- For your Azuarc . I've built something similar for a different company.
These basically hope to do a few things. One, get you to spend on participating websites and they essentially get a small referral fee Two, see which ads worked and which didn't. Seeing how ads affect actual purchases as opposed to just views/ clicks is considered extremely valuable Once they find out what you like to spend on, they'll send you more and better offers related to that through email or whatever Not 100% how honey integrates, but it's probably tracking all of the websites you're hitting and sending it back to a data warehouse somewhere as well --- You did indeed stab me in the back.
