3>1>4>2.

I think Korra had better moments, but I probably enjoyed ATLA more as a whole.

Wasnt expecting Korra and Asami to end up together, seemed kind of shoehorned in there.

All of the big bads were pretty cool in their own right. Not sure who my favorite was. Aman or Zaheer most likely.

I liked Zaheer the most because he put such an unexpected twist on airbending. He took it to a darker place than I ever thought airbending would go.

Seas 3 was so good. I really love the battle at the Temple between Aang's kids and the Red Lotus.

Great series otherwise though. S3 was incredible

Yeah, the fact that heteronormativity was still a thing in animation back then can be thanked for that.

They were dropping big hints starting in Season 3, but to someone not expecting it, you can write it off as "they're good friends".

I think S2 could have done better, but Im not quite sure how. Good in theory, but poor execution.

like I think the light/dark spirits are important to the story but meh

Keep in mind Nick told them

do one season
ok do one more season

ok do 2 more seasons

which is why S3 & S4 had more of an over arching story.

they also cut the budget down mid way which is why we probably lost some of the characters since voice actor costs would go up and we even got a clip episode in s4

Lets talk advanced bending

Earth: metal and lava bending
Fire: lightning, flight?
Water: Healing, blood bending, and octopus arms

S3 is god fucking tier tbh. I love it so much. Zaheer is so fuckin cool

I love the parallels between the S3 final confrontation w/ enraged korra and zaheer, and the final confrontation w/ aang and ozai. But with flipped roles.

Earth bending might be able to bend the minerals like iron and whatnot out of your body and kill you. Fire bending might be the only one where they can't manipulate something inside your body.

Id say moreso:

Earth: Metal, Sand, Lava, Lie-detecting, Sonar
Fire: Lightning, Combustion
Water: Freezing, Healing, Blood
Air: Flight, Astral projection

And I dunno what the plant swamp people from ATLA were.

do they ever expand on the combustion benders? Weve only seen two, and Im not sure if they explain how they became that way

totally forgot about sonar/lie detection

I believe the swamp people were introduced as water benders that fled the main tribes

The swamp people in TLA were water benders. They say it in the episode.

I think spirit bending was also a water thing, not that I recall. So add two more for water.

I assume that was awkwardly edited for good reason. They'd already pushed the envelope far enough in a kid-friendly show with the Earth Queen's murder.

It kinda was until my wife pointed out that it could simply be a start of a relationship, which I think is kind of a crappy way to end the series on (would greatly prefer to see more on their romance).

That was the only decent part of season 2, otherwise yeah it was probably the worst arc in the whole series.

I give it to Aang. The bending in TLA was in general more bombastic and destructive compared to TLK's more reserved bending. Which makes sense. TLA's world has been at war for 100 years. The benders were actively training for open combat. TLK's world had been at peace for decades. If people were bending for combat they were either regulated professional fighters, cops/criminals or soldiers during peacetime.

I agree with your the reasoning, but felt that LOK had the more impressive bending. Ill have to watch ATLA again to compare.

Aang had more technique.

Korra relied on overwhelming force to win. Even then, she constantly lost to benders with actual skill.

Aang can seal bending, but Korra can metal bend and is probably physically more athletic.

Itd be close, tbh.

The comics aren't set during LoK so it's not like there's extra build-up to the relationship or anything. The story of the comics picks up right at the end of the show.
