Is there a reason to actually collect the Wumpa fruit, completion-wise? Or are they effectively just 1/100th of an extra life, and not worth going for completion-wise?

Wumpa fruit? No. Extra life only.
Boxes? Yes.

That's what I thought. I was a little frustrated seeing you could yeet fruit and such and it being really easy to miss fruit, but knowing they're no more valuable than coins in Mario is a load off the mind.

Will massacre boxes tho

Much improved over CB 1. Can't say I'm a fan of 1.

I'm only a few levels in but I'm enjoying it so far. Confused about a few things but I assume I'll eventually figure out how they work.

Also technically "first time" is a lie. I've played bits and pieces back in the day on friend's PlayStations, but this is the first time I've ever truly played it myself.

These transparent intangible platforms. They clearly lead to where I'll find the remaining crates for 100% in each level but I have no idea how to use them. I sort of assume that I'm just unable to do those until later and the game will tell me when I can

Some of my favorite games of all time. Fruit is only forgetting extra lives. Crates are actual collectibles and smashing them all gets you a gem which are more important and actually useful collectibles

Yup. Certain levels will have a secret exit that leads to a colored gem. Those gems will make those wireframe platforms you're seeing standable. Which leads to secret areas with more colored gems.

Crash Bandicoot is one of the few acceptable 3d platformers, because it plays like a 2d platformer.

So... Is there any indication at all where I should be looking for this gem? >_>

Like will it be marked as a collectable for the stage or what?

IIRC the gem indent for a stage on the map screen will be coloured if the gem in the level is also so.

I think the baby's first platformer tips on the load screens in the remake might also make note of it when you're entering a coloured gem level.

Really wish I could pause and restart the level tho when I die

Instead of having to quit or finish the level to try that specific challenge again

The lack of telegraphing of what enemies are and aren't vulnerable to each kind of attack is frankly fucking infuriating.

I just died right near the end to an enemy that just bounces me away when I try to spin him. But I can bounce on their heads. But they're spiky? Like wtf is up with that shit it's so unclear

I'm grinding Lost City for the green gem because you have to get all crates without dying. The jumpy lizard bois you have to bounce on for a couple boxes at some point. I didn't need one of them so I wanted to just kill him but he instead just fuckin yeeted me off the stage

Like bruh you need to make it clear what enemies you can and can't attack. It shouldn't have to be trial and error like that >_>

Also as a side note, the bonus area where you bounce between a 2-thick floor and ceiling made of the 5-hit Wumpa crates is awful. Especially when it's like right at the end of the stage.

At least I'm getting hella lives for grinding this stage out lmao

It's very faithful to the originals in that PS1 games didn't do much hand holding.
Feel free to die in the bonus stages if you miss a crate. You'll just land back in front of the bonus platform with the same amount of lives.

Seems like a silly thing to complain about. Both Spyro and Crash are simple in concept but difficult to 100%. More so Crash than Spyro.

I'm down for faithfulness and a lack of handholding, but when it's like "get all crates without dying" it should be like "(you can die in bonus stages tho)"

Or something. A lack of knowledge of that kind of thing is only frustrating.

Regardless, I got the green gem, thanks god. I didn't die at all in the bonus stages for it either actually. Discovered the safe strat for the double layer bouncy boy bonus area is to just spin-destroy the ceiling.

Anyway, that one is out of the way so that's nice.

There's an additional DLC level for Crash 1 called Stormy Ascent and one for Crash 3 called Future Tense that I recommend you download and complete after you finish the main game.

Those were already on the cart actually. Didn't even have to update.

I'm really enjoying it so far. Good game. Definitely gonna aim for 100%, excepting getting plat for all the time trials.

oddly enough, I actually played a lot of crash team racing when I was younger, on my daycare center's PlayStation. I pretty much don't remember anything about it though, and the physical switch version is pretty cheap I think. I'm almost assuredly going to pick that up as well at some point. I'll probably get the Spyro trilogy as well eventually...
