He's exploding because he has a personal policy (going back decades) never to concede or apologize about anything. Even after losing lawsuits he would never admit wrongdoing. In fairness to your fairness, getting upset about this in a context-blind way is...still racist, because the context doesn't stop existing. The economic impact of COVID-19 has been extremely unequal in who it has affected. The graphs compare the recessions in 1990, 2001, 2008, and 2020 by how each quarter of income earners were affected and COVID-19 has drastically hurt lower-income people more than anyone else. In those recessions, for the most part, people across the income spectrum from high-earners to low-earners were impacted and recovered similarly. But the pandemic? You look at the graph and it's basically a minor inconveience to the top quarter of income earners and in fact they're above where they were when it all started already. Meanwhile, those in the lowest quarter of income fell off a cliff and their recovery isn't even close to where it was before the pandemic. You see it somewhat mirrored with the middle quarters just not quite as extreme as it is for the bottom quarter. I know the snap reaction is "Well, yeah, the rich always make it through just fine, if not better off than before, while the poor suffer.
