I think that's their new way of demeaning the black community, since they can't say the N word. They know full well how it comes off and how it's only used by a certain community. Literally anyone who didn't get all their knowledge about the black community from their racist granddad knows how "the blacks" comes off.

Aside from not saying "the blacks," people say whites all the damn time on this board, so I fail to see why one should be afforded special treatment as to whether it offensive or not. It has nothing to do with racism, its simply quicker to type blacks then black people.

People use adjectives as short hand to refer to demographic groups all the time. Gays, blacks, Hispanics, Latinos, germans, brits, etc.

We literally have a topic mockingly asking "are the straights okay?" on this board.

Its a non-issue.

Saying "blacks" as shorthand for black people isn't any different than using "brits" as shorthand for British people. I'm referring to them by ethnic groups, in that context.

except brit categorizes people by their place and blacks does so by their color/race, which is a result of the very issue tc is getting at

Would you rather I say "the english" or "anglos"? Or would you rather I say "black" is short for "African American"? I also listed "gays" as a term used as shorthand for "gay people".

The point is we have different kinds of demographics and people use the adjectives as shorthand. The demographics can be racial, ethnic, or whatever.
