If there's an opportunity to do so?

No, absolutely not. I'm completely incapable of it in fact. if i try i'll do it for like 1/4 of the game before giving up and going good. to be honest sometimes that strengthens the narrative

This sort of applies to this situation. But I tried playing pure renegade in Mass Effect 2 and I couldn't do it. So no.

Usually not, I don't like hurting people, even in video games, as hokey as that sounds. Also usually the writing is just bad. Like in Mass Effect being the good guy meant being pretty chill and thoughtful about things, while being the bad guy meant just going around killing things without any rhyme or reason. Or KOTOR where like right off the bat you can just pull the plug on some retirement home and kill a dozen people but there's no reason to do that.

Weirdly to me it feels more dickish to be mean in some random convo in ME than gunning down civilians in GTA

Not to mention. Mass Effect 2's Renegade was just you being an asshole while still being sensible.

Mass Effect 3's renegade is a straight up psychopath.

That's actually one game I've never done a "dishonor" playthrough of. The narrative is supposed to be Arthur coming to peace with himself and it doesn't work if you still play him as a dick. Too much incongruity for me lol

agree, but before we take the reins he was a dick. and still is, honestly. i feel playing him as a bad hombre prior to a certain point strengthens the redemption arc

oh shit so that's why it's called red dead redemption. mind = blown

The narrative always annoyed me because Arthur is supposed to be changing but you're still constantly killing people in droves.

Only if it's something with enough depth where I can roleplay somewhere lower on the spectrum without being a psychopath. Doesn't happen often. Pillars of Eternity comes to mind as a recent example, though.

Yes, but sometimes I'll avoid some of the villain/evil stuff I really don't like, such as shooting Mordin in Mass Effect 3.

I try to roleplay.

Unfortunately, most games dont actually give you a reason for the bad route. Its too plainly obvious youre being a dick to be a dick.

The only games I could be a bad person and actually feel warranted are typically RPGs that arent just two options like Elder Scrolls.

To be a villain has to make sense.

Yes. I still maintain that the dark side storyline in the first KOTOR is superior to light side. I played pure dark. Later I watched someone beat the game light side and the light ending is lame and generic

Nod. That one felt particularly enlightening. You realize it's not because of reasons. It's because that's just who you are.
