I never really saw why it was a big deal

When I was in high school I only got one single detention and it was for saying "motherfucker" in a friendly way to one of my buds, I got a three hour friday detention over that back in 2011.

Like who gives a shit they are just words jfc

Eh... its setting good habits early. Dont want sailors in the workplace.

The issue is when parents dont do as they preach.

Seriously, my dad would cuss up a storm, especially when driving, but then I would say "god damnit" and it would be like the end of the world to him.

Perhaps he was unable to break the habit, and didn't want you to be cursed with the same burden.

Any reasonable person knows kids are going to swear regardless, but as parents it's our job to make sure they know when it is or is not appropriate to do so, and hopefully they won't grow up to be some reprobate who just swears at everyone

Habits. There is a time and place for those words and kids dont know when that time or place is.

I had a coworker once that used the n word in front of me. He also shat his pants on the job and had to go buy new pants. He later got fired after potential customers complained about him (he was a delivery driver and had terrible hygiene and went shopping somewhere on his way in. The place he was shopping planned to order food from us later for lunch but changed their mind when saw him). The boss got pissed at him for losing a big sale and the guy had a meltdown and held a knife near me in a semi-threatening manner (like he wasn't pointing it at me but had this look on his face...). I knew he wasn't going to do anything with it but I was prepared to defend myself if I had to. Management was looking for a reason to fire his ass for a while and that pushed him over the edge. I was glad to not have to deal with him anymore. He used to bitch about "liberals" all the time. I didn't really care that much because it was a different time (end of Bush or beginning of Obama). In the current climate though I would definitely get someone like that fired much faster. Just random swearing though and not using slurs though? I couldn't be bothered to give a fuck about that.

For me, it's because I don't do it and my wife doesn't do it. It would be pretty terrible if my kids did it. I just don't really see a point to it and there are other ways to verbally express frustration than a sailor mouth.

Though in a family where the parents do it, I'm not sure what the issue is, unless there's a certain age where it suddenly becomes acceptable.
