I personally like it, but Im not sure that it would be a game that Id recommend as a really good NES game, just due to the difficulty. Lets face it, the game was beloved back in the day due to the cutscene graphics, which were outstanding at the time.

NES games honestly for the most part feel too primitive for me. I say that though, as someone who was raised on Genesis and later PS1

Anything good in the NES library has a superior alternative that was made circa 2000 or later.

Mega Man 2 and Castlevania 2 are both amazing games within the context of time, but are inferior to the PSX offerings of MMX4 and SotN. Or they've been updated/ported like Dr Mario, Ducktales, Dragon Quest 4, or Final Fantasy 3. .

And crystalis is a great action+adventure+RPG but in practices you can play a Zelda title or God of War and get a similar experience imo.

The only good and time-locked entries are the genre-melding ones, imo. Air Fortress, Guardian Legend, and Blaster Master. The first-person point and click games (Shadowgate, Uninvited, and Deja Vu) were all computer ports anyways, but a similar (if less whimsical) experience to an Ace Attorney game.

The Magic of Scheherazade was doing the hybrid rpg battle system, class changing by going to college, getting kicked out of stores because bartering too much, optional party members, and gambling in the casino all in one game before it was cool to do.

Also, little ninja brothers from the exact same company was doing the 2 player co-op rpg battle system thing years before something like the tales of series did it.

Sotn sucks compared to Castlevania 3. MM2 is better than MMX4.

How is God of war anything like Crystalis? Zelda isnt even that similar to Crystalis.

Crystalis' main appeal was having 4 elemental swords and misc accessories to swap in/out of of to leverage the best damage or get through a certain dungeon in an action/RPG hybrid setting. About half of your spells are used once or twice to Wake The Snorlax.

Oh, and I forgot about the fantasy sports+sim games. Those were pretty good; Base Wars (baseball, but with money to buy/upgrade your FIGHTING ROBOTS) and Baseball Simulator 1000 (pitcher gains a fireball spell) notably.
