I remember seeing this pop up on my tl on Twitter last summer, watching it & just thinking "wtf is this shit? This is what kids watch nowadays?"

https://youtu.be/aA-o2vmlCOM

The beanmouth stuff looks really gross & it seems like ResetERA types basically make up the entire American animation industry now - I can't imagine how lame & unfunny a generation of kids raised on current Nickelodeon/CN is gonna grow up to be.

I would say that was the end of the good cartoons for sure. But 90's cartoons will always be the best, with some 80's thrown in.

My wife loves Steven Universe, but I don't think it's my thing. It's okay, but not something I would go out of my way to watch.

Come to think of it, I don't really watch any cartoons these days. I liked Bob's Burgers, but haven't seen an episode in over a year. I'd say the same for South Park.

Last Cartoon Network cartoon I liked was probably Adventure Time.

I watched Voltron on Netflix last year. Started out really good, but started to lose me in the second half.

It is probably just my age, but when I would probably agree with the 90s and 2000s being my favorite time for cartoons. With bit of the 80s.

When I think of cartoons I really liked, I think of Avatar: TLA, Samurai Jack, Dexter's Lab, the whole DCAU, Animaniacs, Freakazoid, Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop, Gargoyles, Doug, Tiny Toons, Hey Arnold, Angry Beavers, Beetlejuice, Aladdin, Johnny Bravo, Dave the Barbarian, Thundercats, Kim Possible, and so on. Not counting the anime I grew up on.

Man, feeling nostalgic.

There's some truth to this, and the CALARTS animation style truly is a cancer. That having been said, today's kids are growing up with The Amazing World of Gumball, so there's hope.

They aren't good, but that might be age. remember; most people that grew up on Looney Toones probably thought our cartoon were crap.

At least our animation didn't go down though. comparing Looney Toons, Teen Titans and anything shown on Nick/CN today will show that it's about pushing them out and less about quatility.

I disagree. Older cartoons lacked good animation or art, and almost none of them had any plotlines or storytelling.

Codename Kids Next Door alone trashes everything from the 80s and 90s. Old cartoons are just slapstick and crap.

Storylines have come further, but animation has suffered for it, that's about it.

Looking at "Uncle Grandpa" gives me headaches, "Steven Universe" does too, but the stories are amazing for some -shit-tastic show(s). But so did Spider-Man (90's) with that "SHOCKERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR".

I reiterate: Story has upgraded, but animation has suffered because it's less about the pictures, and more about the stories. It's all about teaching out kids "right" and less about fun.

This is because the TV is the "Electronic Babysitter"

Animaniacs shits all over CNKD though. The animation is leagues beyond CNKD. The writers were concerned with making a show both kids and adults could enjoy and it showed. If you didn't watch CNKD as a 6-14 year old, you'd likely turn it off before making it to the end of a single episode as an adult.

That's great and all, but creating a show all ages can enjoy and very much succeeding at it is a far more difficult task than creating a decent show for kids. If you want to respect something, respect succeeding at something that requires more effort than "children's show isn't awful"

There's plenty good, they just air infrequently or are on streaming sites.
Craig of the Creek, for what little I've seen is similar to Recess, but has its own charms.
Disney has its trio: Owl House, Amphibia, and Big City Greens.
I feel a lot of people sleep on Big City Greens, but I find it frequently funny and entertaining. Not perfect, but still.

Owl House has a fantastical setting and interesting premise, with cool characters, the writing feels...bleh sometimes, but it's not bad.

Amphibia is like a mix of the 2. Funny, fantastical setting, decent writing.

Then there's streaming series.
Infinity Train I constantly hear good things about.
Castlevania looks fantastic and my brother says its good.
Glitch Techs looks good and is on shaky territory getting continued. I should give it a watch

(Butt Ugly Martians, Mega Diaper Babies, Pinky, Brain and Elmyra, Yo Yogi, plenty of celebrity tie in cartoons.)
90s had good stuff, but also bad stuff.
I think airing schedules are the biggest problem, but even CN is getting slightly better about it
