xp: Duvalie as a party member is too good because of her high speed and her Order boosting speed. Gives me back those "enemy doesn't get a chance to attack" antics from the previous CS games. Did you notice that all of her Crafts have the same Delay as her regular attack does, because she's so swift?

I've only fought one person since Juna but he was pretty tough in Pom too. Difficulty jump was massive there for me.

Minor spoiler for bonding: you get one more bond point every chapter once you beat the hunt target, from what I can tell so far. So you can just pick everyone except Musse!

1v1 mech battles in Cold Steel are bad I really hope there aren't seven of them.

CS4 2-1: Oh, well that extra bond point will be useful! Crow was probably on the chopping block otherwise. As for Duvalie... I did not notice that about her crafts but oh man that's awesome.

Looks like I'm behind a lot of people here but I just finished the prologue/barely started Act 1 of Cold Steel IV. Man, that was a lot of cutscenes.

was amused at the fact that our new apparent hub village yet again has hot springs and was further amused at the revelation that just like in CS2 it's named after an Attack On Titan character. but anyway

I... kind of really didn't like the stuff in Eryn. It makes sense that some of the old Class VII would be especially down but this seems like one of those things like leaving at the end of CS2 where they just all need to act as a unit even if the writing is tenuous. That said, given what a few of them especially had just gone through, I did not like Juna's speech. It was well-delivered, but just really off-putting that with everything that happened in the Gral literally all she seemed to care about was Rean. then again given how old Class VII thinks of him maybe that was actually the right approach

also with all that talk about going out after him EVEN IF YOU AREN'T losing all your quartz and dropping a lot of levels and having to stay behind was a pretty funny follow-up

speaking of characters I missed hi Duvalie

Some of that sounds overly negative (in part I imagine because I haven't been sleeping much recently), but I'm still pretty hype to see a lot of these characters back again.

F/GO: You know I was highly skeptical of this event at the beginning because it all just seemed too ridiculous but the fact that it's leaning into the absurdity 200% is making it work. It's also kinda a Babylonia epilogue/after story? That's cool.

I think I read that they released some concept art that shows off the protagonist but I don't know if that was confirmed the protagonist or just speculation.

I can't see Trails ever going silent protagonist

Although Persona has shown that you don't need to talk to have a harem or for everyone to be obsessed with you, so I doubt it would solve any of your problems!

I think there was also one piece of promo art depicting who we think is the main character but no other info.

Oh, right, there was something in early CS4 2-1 that caught my attention wrt to this discussion: Rean suffering from brain damage again. When talking to Emma on the Merkabah on the way to Bryonia he flashed back to Emma's final bond event... but the romance version. When I had Rean turn all three down in my CS3 file. The two kinda agreed to pretend it never happened but that was weird it happened at all. The scene was ostensibly about Rean commenting on how Emma stopped wearing her glasses so maybe it's just some silly Falcom thing where they check if you saw the final bond event but didn't check/record whether you had Rean pick the romance option or not and just rolled with it because it's about Emma not wearing glasses. Laura and Alisa didn't have similar moments though so I don't think that's it? Like Alisa is notably (to Rean and the player) acting weird because of her feeling guilty for Alberich but there was no reference to any romance stuff. Laura though was just "wanna play VM?"

Hajimari, minor spoilers: We're given a visual novel from the perspective of a female bracer working under Zin. She has two friends, both male, one of whom works for the CID and the other is implied to work for a criminal element. General suspicion is that one of them is the next protag.

I mean it got popular dubbed. So that's kinda it. Sub still rocks. Krillin voiced by Luffy? I don't like Sabat much either and thats a big miss.

I only give you that adult goku is weird to jump into without hearing the character through the original show first.

Back to Cold Steel IV Act 1 Chapter 3!

I gotta say, playing in Crossbell here while also playing Trails From Zero is honestly kind of jarring because I'm mixing up what I've done in each game as I try to remember what I did last time I played! We visit the IBC, which also doubles as the Reinford Company branch in Crossbell, and Alisa says we need to talk to the receptionist. She brings us some documents that outline the activities of the branch office. They include production logs of a factory on the western side of Crossbell, as well as orders for armaments of Tangram Fortress and other installations. To put it simply, the Reinford Company is putting everything it's got behind the war effort, and Alisa's mother is the one behind that. Musse reminds us that all businesses are required to comply with the National Mobilization Law, so the company didn't have much of a say in the matter.

We pay a visit to the Entertainment District next, and I feel like they're spoiling the games for me by once again reminding me that Ilya was seriously injured about a year ago, and Rixia's on a leave of absence. Altina has a quick flashback to meeting Rixia at the end of CS2, which was cool. Oh, we can also access the back alley (although it's called the Crossbell Strip here, and it looks like Revache isn't around anymore, so that's interesting), and it's not even a separate screen, which is neat. We randomly meet that dude who was stalking the St. Astraia girls in CS3 in the hotel, wallowing in self-pity over his bad fortune. Oh, that Sully girl is a new member of Arc en Ciel here. The casino's not open yet, so we can't go there, but it seems like it'll be available later. I was hoping to see some physics-defying dancing when I visited Arc en Ciel, but alas! The game doesn't even bother going through the motions of writing dialogue only for us to find out they don't know anything here, but they just fade to black and tell us in a quick textbox, so I appreciate them saving me time!

We visit Imelda's shop, and she immediately knows who we are when Juna drops Lloyd's name and mentions how she used to help the SSS. She asks if we want to know how Lloyd's team got into Orchis Tower, something the party was totally unaware of. We can also give her our unique recipes, so she takes Edel's place for this chapter.

Continued a bit more in CS4 Act 2-1. Finished the semi-required quests.

And this is the other reason I save/reload to watch all the bond events. Crow's was meh and Musse's was at least intriguing so it was Crow who ended up being the odd one out for this round of bonding events. Duvalie's was good as was Altina's. Also it's ironic given how we were all just justifiably criticizing how Trails keeps going down the harem game rabbit hole but the Fie bonding event was actually very well done, IMO and my favorite of the five available here. Though consider me highly exasperated that seeing these bonding events will come with mandatory romance and not a "friends route" type option outside just skipping it. Unless Fie's isn't representative of what's coming since she's the only heart event so far.

Went back to Bryonia Island to explore the other half (and steal that fish Annabelle was after lol) and found another cryptid but it was a complete joke. It moved first when the fight started and then never acted again lol. Kinda strikes me as weird that that Wads guy just basically told Hugo he was untouchable after he was caught scamming Parm. ...Like can't Hugo just fire him? I take it Hugo's dad is the owner/CEO but still. Looks like we'll be off to Ordis next.

tbh I don't mind the harem aspects of Cold Steel that much and there are other things I'd rather criticize the sub-series for anyways. (At least in comparison to the older games which may be an unfairly high bar)
