Yeah, you get to pick. Kind of like CS2's Act 1. Specifically, after you finish this day and time advances to the next one you have the full party with you and once you make your way over to the teleportation stones is when you make the call. I mention this detail because...

Fie is fishing

I took Fie and it turns out her fishing there isn't for show. She can fish as your on-field character just like New Class VII so she can join your fishing contest if you like. Though if you're taking Sara your only opportunity to fish with her right now and add her to the contest for now would be to have her fish at the spot in Eryn that morning before you make the decision.

I haven't been posting update blurbs so this cover a bit more ground. Basically all of Act 1 Part 2. Wrapped up the day and returned to Eryn.

Milsante was an okay small town but it has presented me with one of my big mysteries for this part in "Who is Diana?" Juna thinks she reminds her of someone, she mysteriously showed up in town eight years ago, and has an examine-able family photo in her room. My first, and still leading, guess is a connection to Altina because of the silver hair and how Altina has on multiple occasions mentioned the area is familiar somehow but what bugs me is... how? Like wasn't the whole point of the Oz project to create homonculi with artificial souls why would there be a connection to someone unless we're gonna learn she or her daughter was the model for Altina for reasons??

Beryl has some neat tricks if she can appear/disappear at will. oh god the Raquel casino is open now. Bleh at the payouts though, they're not very great even if you get to the maximum streak which isn't entirely trivial to do. On the road to Alster is mystery #2 - our two mystery women at the rest stop. I immediately ID'd Lucy from Sky 3 but her friend/associate/bodyguard? I'm still drawing a blank on and I feel like I shouldn't be. Fie also had an Active Voice Event on the road at a monument/memorial? but didn't elaborate.

Alster was a cool town. Might be a strong contender for best town theme in the series actually. Nice scene at Olivier's childhood home... or rather where it used to be. And hey it's Nielsen... time to read everything he says as suspiciously as possible. I see my very first thought in the game intro about Osgiliath Basin being suspect played out here albeit just as a singularity and not as a possible Black Workshop location as I theorized. The Musse reunion was good but not as powerful as Ash's. Aurelia still the greatest though lmao Cedric thinking Gareth aimnig at her meant shit. lmfao at Aurelia just casually stating that fighting her way out of the situation might only be a pain because Musse's safety was a concern. looooooool at Vita and Musse stealthing the Pantagruel there the whole time.

Another good section. Part 1's climax was more powerful IMO but Part 2 was more solid everywhere else.

This hasn't been confirmed at the point I'm at in the game, but I'm almost positive it's supposed to be Elie's mom, which is just really cool imo. There's also a bit stronger hint pointing in this direction later on because Randy and Tio make an almost identical comment to Juna when they meet Diana. There's also a bunch of NPC dialogue about some kind of troubling event in her past, though that's generic enough it could apply to a lot of things I guess..

Anyway I've been playing a ton of Cold Steel 4. I'm far enough ahead of you guys though (almost done with Act 2) that I don't think posting updates is really relevant. I can comment on what you guys say at least though!

Oh, huh. ...That would make sense. Though it would shift my new mystery to, "So why does Altina find this place familiar?" Is the Black Workshop somehow nearby and it's some residual memory thing? That one NPC thought she saw something in the water that I took as a kind of Loch Ness Monster-esque thing but... ...maybe they have an undersea base? I have to stop I'm getting too silly right now.

Okay, let's play some more Cold Steel IV Act 1 Chapter 2!

Once we arrive in the Eerie Woods, the rest of the party joins Kurt. I decided to try to fight the cryptid for the heck of it. Turned out not to be a great idea since it was level 100, but lesson learned! Time to move on to the 2nd phase of the labyrinth! This really isn't much of a labyrinth though, but I don't mind that it's easier than the previous Cold Steel progressive dungeons. There's just one floor and then a boss on the next. This boss has a move named Squall, so I'm immediately a fan. Regardless, it's not a difficult fight, and that's all for the day. I get an S rank for the chapter, so I know I didn't miss any AP, at least!

Our next stop is Lamare, meaning Raquel, the town Ash was raised in, is nearby. He plans to wear a disguise so no one will recognize him. Rose mumbles something to herself about a shrine but not being able to use it yet when I talk to her before leaving. One of the townsfolk says that Rose plans to work together with the Septian Church, stating that they've had problems in the past but they've been at peace for 200 years now, so that's interesting.

Okay, now back to Cold Steel IV Act 1 Chapter 2!

All right, "Come at me, fishes!" is a fantastic line for Fie. That ends up being the deciding factor in choosing Fie to accompany New Class VII to Lamare. Once we go through the teleportation stone, we find ourselves in Avon Hills, which is new to the crew (except for Ash, naturally). Ash lampshades how absurd and yet convenient it is to be able to teleport not only themselves but the Panzer Soldats. Then he recommends that they head to Milsante first, thinking they can pick up some intel on Leeves and Grenville since a lot of visitors pass through the area.

There's a road blocked off by a gate. Ash thinks there was a cave-in nearby a few years ago, and so they sealed it off, but I imagine we'll go that way eventually! Some of the enemies around here are kind of annoying because they keep charging and causing Faint. We find a Trial Chest for Kurt/Altina, and it powers up Kurt's Brave Order.

Milsante has a cool town theme and a vibe that reminds me a bit of Legram, probably because of the lake. We're told by a lady named Diana that Grenville has a big conscription office and heightened security at the moment, so that seems like a stay away for now. Plus, it's not inside Lamare, so it wouldn't have the singularity we're looking for anyway. However, she says there's a student helping out at the inn, so we should check it out. We find Sidney there, and he tells us that Maya, Gustaf, Sandy, and Leonora are all in the area, too. They headed off to Raquel to gather intel shortly before we arrived, naturally. Fie gets a call from Sara and Elliot, but there's interference, so she tries to find a better signal.

Then suddenly there's a creepy woman standing right behind us. She calls herself a traveling fortune teller (Beryl?), and she predicts we'll reunite with an old friend here, but we won't be driving any stakes. Everyone is shocked by the accuracy of her fortune telling as Fie comes back, but then they look around for the fortune teller, she's GONE, whoa, scary.

yes. This was the amazing voice clip I mentioned earlier. I was trying to figure out a way to direct you to see it without totally giving it away because depending on what you chose your window to see it would be absolutely tiny. I mean you have to figure you'd have plenty of opportunity later in the game but still. I just started laughing when I first heard it because it was the last thing I expected.

Yeah, I think it has to be. Fie acts like she's narrowed it down to one person which seems to imply it's a Thors alumni and she's the only one who fits that bill.

I'm playing Trails From Zero Chapter 3, and the one thing that has been a consistent refrain is that the commander of Bellguard Gate is a total buffoon. It's almost making me strangely eager to meet him. The fact that we haven't met him yet makes me wonder if it's someone we already know.

I have long ago reached a point of transcendent nihilism when it comes to the Jets where I accept all outcomes.

They win? Hell yeah, any time the Patriots lose is excellent.. Oh, the tank? Well, yeah of course they messed that up.
They lose? o ya gonna get that first pick in the draft... and then draft a bust (or otherwise mismanage the player so badly they demand a trade within three years) because they're that bad.

... .... ...Put me down for a mild "want them to win" because at my core I still have an aversion towards rooting for a loss for teams I support. But also from the jaded cynicism that they will screw up the draft anyway so the instant gratification of beating the Patriots might be worth it. ugh but then we're helping their draft position.

I honestly don't totally understand rooting for teams that have done no real winning in your lifetime. The Cowboys have been endlessly frustrating for the last 25 years, but I'm old enough to remember the three Super Bowls and how much fun those teams were.

It's why I never became a fan of the Falcons or Hawks despite growing up in or around Georgia. The Braves are probably the most conflicting for me because they did win that one, but they should've won more and they have some very painful playoff losses. This year was the first year I'd really watched them at all since Chipper Jones retired (and his last game was painful and it cemented my hatred for the 1 game playoff).

Seriously though, my uncle was (and is still but I think the past... decade? has worn him down quite a bit) a huge Jets fan so it just rubbed off on me as a little kid. And from there it really is some kind of twisted sense of loyalty or something, idk. It's really the only sports case for me.

Baseball I never really cared for when I was younger. I was more a contrarian who would root for the Mets or Red Sox because I was surrounded by Yankees fans all the time. In basketball I'm a fan of players more than teams first and foremost (whereas in football while I'm still a fan of certain players my loyalty to the Jets takes priority.)

never got into hockey.

Yeah, I get it. Most of the teams I root for are because of my dad. The one exception is the Spurs because we rooted for Jordan before then. When he retired, I moved to the Spurs because of David Robinson, and then I stayed because of Duncan, Ginobili, and Parker. Turned out to be a good call! I still nominally root for them because it's been 20 years at this point, but I'm not a passionate fan anymore.

Now let's continue Trails of Cold Steel IV Act 1 Chapter 2!

We're heading down toward the lake in Milsante before we head to Raquel, and Altina says she doesn't detect any monsters nearby, which is interesting. We get to a clearing where you get a good view of the lake and the mountains, and Altina thinks the scenery looks familiar. We run into Annabelle here, who's looking for Kenneth, and she mentions that she found some ruins nearby, too. Sure enough, they're right around the corner and just like the ones we found before in Sutherland! So it turns out that Beryl's prediction was spot on, after all!

I like the ambiance of Luna Shrine. However, there isn't very much to it, as we walk right up and get into a boss fight. This boss is a little tough, but thankfully, its physical attack doesn't petrify, so it's not as bad as the one in the previous shrine. We get another flashback, this time it was a demonic being talking to Dreichels on his deathbed about claiming his soul (which is maybe why Dreichels is the one Awakener who doesn't come back from the dead?). Then we see Arianrhod/Lianne Sandlot, who is still very young, unlike Dreichels. This time, Fie saw it, too, unlike Randy the first time, perhaps because she has a closer connection with Rean. Altina wonders if it's only Erebonians who can see these visions or only Class VII, and I'd wager the latter because of Rean. With that, we're off to Raquel.

also what if Ouroboros fell apart at the end of CS2 because Grandmaster Ricky got amnesia
