Femaleness or maleness or intersexness (most intersex conditions are linked to one sex or another, not a split-down-the-middle third) are immutable. Every person born in the world ever has been female, male or intersex and it has never changed in their lifetime.

Gender changes between culture and across time. It is an artificial social structure that, no matter the numbers of gender recognized, overwhelmingly and across cultures is used for oppressing female people beneath male people for the reproductive, domestic and emotional benefit of the males. Gender is almost always based on binary categories that correspond exactly to the real male/female sexual dimorphism of humans.

Vulvas are not inherently female in that someone intersex could have one, but the purpose of female genital mutilation is to reinforce sexual purity/punishment/fidelity of female people in the Women gender category. Incidental intersex victimization is the exception that proves the rule.

Female genital mutilation is a gender-affirming act in that it definitely, 100% reinforces what the expected gender role is but it is not done for the individual's self actualization. To say that the term 'female genital mutilation' invalidates someone's identity would be a mockery of the human rights violation of FGM and of what identity politics actually stands for.

No? Explain yourself.

Sex is unchanging, gender is culture-bound and socialized. Transwomen are male, even if they are women; transmen are female, even if they are men. People who identify as non-binary are often said to "not identify as male or female," but that's as meaningless as not identifying as having bones --- they can only opt to not identify with being within the gender category they wish to escape.

The tweet says that vulvas aren't inherently female (and also argues that 'male' and 'female' are gendered words in other tweets). I have conceded the intersex exception already. They blatantly and completely says "sex and gender are the same thing." They are not. Liberal feminists often say that sex and gender are different, but what I see far more often is "transwomen have female penises," which, again, requires us to believe that sex and gender are the same thing, otherwise they would just have penises (which are a male/XY expression) and still be women without that contestation. The person is correct that medical forms should only be asking for sex; however the change to 'gender' is recent in my lifetime and was done to accommodate accusations that selecting accurate sex information was cruel to people who wish to occupy another gender category. They are demanding it be both ways and relying on the worst essentialism, rather than just read actual feminist literature.
