A friend of mine has a similar situation with her husband. He votes for whoever she told him to vote for. They voted Trump in 2016, but they voted Biden this year.

I've maybe asked this before but I've chosen to forget, where are you? My line was less than 5 minutes in Brookline, though I did see pictures of long lines this morning in Shadyside and Oakland.

Since people were trying to use my story as a case of voter suppression earlier I will say that the process on election day was very easy and safe. Was in and out within 15 minutes. Obviously ideally the early in-person voting would have been better equipped to handle the pandemic but I really don't think claims of (intentional and malicious) voter suppression are justified in my case.

(Yes, nobody said "intentional and malicious" but that is obviously the implication.)

If all Republicans refuse to do early voting and 75% of Democrats do it, election day turnout should still be down a lot. That it's not, apparently, should be a good sign for Trump.

Edit: Unless you are in a very red part of the state where there were very few Democrats voting on election day 2016.

Oh yeah, washpa is so hard trump it makes me vomit. Every time I've driven through there I'm reminded how glad I am to have moved closer to the city. I am a little surprised that its line is so long, but I guess that goes to show how high turnout is.

The thing is that voter suppression is anything that suppresses votes and it's often hard to distinguish between intentional, incompetent, and accidental. You can think of it as a spectrum, but it all has the same effect. It's better to just call it out for what it is regardless.

Just get back from voting. Some backstory here, I've voted every presidential/midterm and I think prior to today the most "crowded" my polling place has ever been was 2008 where the "line" was like 3 people long and the wait literally a minute or two.

Today? Probably 200-300 people long and from getting on line to checking in was an hour and 15 minutes.

Granted, in the past I've gone later in the day than I did today but wow.

I don't view it as a spectrum. "Deliberate voter suppression" and "accidental voter suppression" are two different things that have different solutions and reflect differently on the people that implemented them. To me there's no reason to lump them together other than rabble rousing.

I knew people were going to be stressing about high Trump turnout on election day, but you'd think someone these people hadn't listed to anything anyone was saying about when early and mail in votes were gonna be counted for the last month. These people gotta chill.

I don't think here anyone realistically expected Biden to win the in person vote today, but I guess you can't stop some folks less in the know from thinking it was gonna be sweep.

I feel like being a Trump voter in 2016 and then voting Kanye in 2020, in Pennsylvania, and then posting that on Facebook is the optimal way to get the most people mad at you because of your vote!

I voted in NJ, where I normally never have a line, and had about a half hour wait. To be fair, NJ is really pushing mail-in votes (they mailed ballots to all voters, and even in person you had to cast a provisional paper vote), and they consolidated some voting locations, although unless they combined five of them, turnout is up here in a very uncompetitive area.

I overheard the poll workers talking to some supervisor, and apparently someone had flipped out earlier in the day, insisting on using their own pen to fill in the ballot. The supervisor said "Yeah, you're not the only place. People are on edge today." It sounded like they had to call the police or something, although I didn't hear enough of the conversation to know if it was about that or something menial.
