They're delicious between the mashed potatoes and rolls.

I dont really give a crap unless they are trying to shove their diet down my throat or its my significant other.

The reason I want my significant other to be an omnivore is because I want to be able to make her delicious meals :)
and thats a lot harder when you cant use meat or animal products, even plain ole vegetarians are easier to serve because at least then I can use dairy products and eggs.

I do also question the sustainability and environmental impact. Rain forest are being destroyed to grow palm oil and soy. Probably less CO2 emission than having the land as cattle pasture, but it's not much better.

Kind of how TESLA and electric cars won't use fossil fuel, but those batteries are still made from scarce resources mostly found in impoverished areas, likely to be exploited by the rich.

It's an alternative, but not a superior replacement some make it out to be.

Moderate respect if they aren't annoying about it. Being willing to give up something tasty because of moral reasons is admirable as long as you can refrain from being a douche.

Well, theyre people. I wouldnt date one, but I have vegan friends. Nothing wrong with them. And my vegans dont try to make me vegan, and I dont make them eat my cooking. So, its all good...

Those I know tend to be annoying and counterproductively insistent. That said, I'd like to go vegan but I like cheese too much and oat milk sucks - even in porridge, which is weird.

We need vocal vegans who are pro war. Well, not quite, but you get the idea. All vegans I am aware of are very lefty (in a identity politics way, not an old school Tony Benn style) and that puts people off. Maybe I should become one.....

Pretty much. It's mostly just annoying trying to cook for them, especially where I'm more of a dessert guy and butter/eggs are hard to substitute (substitutes exist, but they're often kind of weird and/or expensive).

Yeah, it's far from a perfect replacement, and soy is really not a great crop to be relying on to the extent that most vegan diets require (although soy is already used in pretty much every processed food - vegan or otherwise - because it has a lot of useful properties).

Yeah I don't really understand the natural obsession. Lots of natural things are horrible and lots of manmade things are great. It's especially weird when someone says something is safe to ingest because it's natural. Bitch, most poisons are natural too.

Especially when the people saying that "natural is best" are doing so while living in an artificial shelter, heated by an artificial furnace, lit by artificial lights (though ideally with some sun during the day), artificially supplied with water that's been artificially made potable and artificially heated as needed, plumbed with an artificial sewer line to artificially manage the waste they produce, eating food that was artificially produced (remember: nothing about agriculture is natural) and prepared (cooking isn't natural either), wearing artificial clothing, and using an artificial device to connect to an artificial communications network to say (in an artificial language) that they've cut all artificial things out of their life because they ate an organic carrot that one time.

(I legitimately had to look up the word "artificial" halfway through that post because I'd said it so many times that it stopped sounding like a real word and that made me doubt that I was using it correctly >.>)

Some are fine, some are not, just like people in general. My mom is one, and she's been trying so many things out while respecting that, sometimes, her own husband and kids will just want to grab something non-vegan to eat. I've tried and liked some vegan meals because of her, for that matter.

I apreciate your recognition.

While acknowledgement and understanding of allergies is more or less the standard nowadays, the same cannot be said of intolerances, so I just wanted to make sure.

Yeah technically a food intolerance isn't an allergy but it was clear the person meant as long as the food doesn't hurt you.

I think a lot of my customers at work have you beat. Good gods, the consumption of meat there, especially the deep fried chicken coated in sugar-heavy sauces... plus the beef dishes.

I only know one vegan, and he was an omnivore when I became friends with him. He turned vegetarian, then slowly into a vegan.
He was one of the worse kinds of vegans, the ones that spout all those stupid ass "facts", then when you prove them wrong, he'd say: "I can't believe you went through all that trouble just to prove me wrong."

This was a little after smart phone were a thing, so Googleing one of his bs "facts" took no time at all. He was a pretty close friend of mine, but now I don't talk to him, and actually hate him.

In short, they feel offended, as if the other person insulted them. Even if the vegan only commented on their own eating habits.

Compare this to when people say "I don't eat seafood" or "I don't eat broccoli." People don't get insulted by these statements. Because people don't attach morality or willpower to these statements.
