This upcoming season has apparently already been filmed in its entirety (while fully adhering to the state of California's COVID-19 safety guidelines) and is expected to start airing in December, although no official premiere date has been announced yet. Some notables from the field:

- The champion of 3 of the first 4 seasons of the revived BattleBots, the seemingly indestructible Bite Force, is not returning this year. This means that we are nearly guaranteed a brand new champion, although Tombstone (the champion of season 2 of the revived BattleBots) and Son Of Whyachi (champion of season 3 of the original BattleBots series) are both still around and still looking quite dangerous.

- Team Whyachi apparently has 3 bots competing this year. In addition to the living legend Son Of Whyachi and the insane flipper of Hydra that they debuted last year, they've also brought a new bot called Fusion that seems to have multiple different spinning weapons.

- Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, far fewer international teams were able to make it this year. Among the very few international teams competing are longtime veterans and former UK Champions Team Hurtz, who have brought Beta back into action after 2 seasons away.

- Chomp's new walker design looks fucking stupid and I hate it.

- SMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE looks fucking stupid and I love it.

So who's excited for ROBOT FIGHTIN' TIME to finally arrive? Any predictions? Wishes? Matchups you want to see?

I still remember from last year that Hydra fell to bits once its armor was actually tested. Hopefully they've addressed that this season. It certainly has the potential to be a full successor to bots like Bronco: which had a very poor showing last season despite its pedigree.

Beta is back with the hammer weapon, huh? I still hate hammer weapons. Far too finicky in terms of getting an accurate hit and the damage usually isn't there even when you do strike a foe. The same goes for bots like Axe Backward, even though that's more of a low velocity drum with decorative axes attached. :P

Bloodsport... Wasn't that the bot that had their righting arm break repeatedly and cause them to lose after getting flipped? I know there was at least one bot like that with a righting arm attached that just didn't withstand the impacts experienced in Battlebots.

Chomp is looking as over-engineered as ever. It looks like some sort of John Deer tractor gone wrong thanks to that paint scheme. I wonder if this design can take as much punishment as the old one.

Mammoth is back... It'll be interesting to see what those washing poles can accomplish this season. Those tires though... Those tires look far to exposed for my tastes. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they lose a match due to losing their tires.

Subzero seems to have shed it's junk defense for an attempt to copy the frame of Biteforce. We'll see if that works out for them.

They took it out of retirement after their more experimental bots really blew it. It just does okay, but there are now much better horizontal spinners out there, especially since until this upcoming season, they wouldn't have been able to get a weight advantage by fielding it as a walker.

Hard to see why the Chomp people keeping fiddling with the bot and trying to do stupid shit instead of just sticking with what made it good in the one season it was worth a damn.

Smeeeeeeee looks dumb as hell but all the damage it will take will guarantee it televised matches so fair play to the builders.

Is this the year Captain Shrederator doesn't immediately break for the rest of the season after it's first impact with anything? Probably not.

Yeah, a 500 pound Chomp sounds scary on paper. But the thing probably moves like an obese turtle and still doesn't hit very hard.

SoW has constantly been upgraded with better tech, and its weapon is even more powerful than it was before. It's not the best horizontal spinner out there, but it can still completely wreck bots with a few solid hits. There's a reason why I called it a living legend.

Team Mutant Robots (Disector/Tazbot) now fights with Lock-Jaw, Inertia Labs (Toro/T-Minus) now fights with Bronco, Team Raptor now fights with Ghost Raptor (feel free to watch it get destroyed in one of the SoW clips I linked to above), and Nightmare itself competed in a few of the reboot seasons but recently retired. Bronco has performed the best out of those, placing in the top 8 of each of the first 3 seasons of the reboot.
