how have we not discovered a big ass planet on the edge of our solar system? It seems crazy to me that we can discover habitable planets light-years away, but we seemingly can't find a giant in our own solar system? Someone who is astronomy plz explain.

Also, Pluto will always be planet nine in my heart...

Light. No light could make it hard to see it... probably...

They also have those rogue planets out there, as well... Those are just flying through space...

It really about the Orbit of the 'Planet'...supposedly, it has a very Elongated Orbit around the Sun (similar to a Comet) that comes close every 100-1000 years or something...

"exoplanets" are found by watching them pass in front of their stars regularly. stuff that exists deep in our own system is hard(er) to find because it's not illuminated or contrasted by anything. (there's a huge amount of stuff in the kuiper belt and beyond but it's hard to see).

thinking about it, it reminds me of a campfire at night. if you look inward at the campfire, objects between you and the fire appear almost as black silhouettes, illuminated from behind. looking outward from the campfire, nearby objects are brightly illuminated, but the campfire only goes so far, and very distant objects are still lost in the darkness.

If Pluto is a planet then we have to start teaching kids that there are literally thousands and thousands of planets in our solar system, cause theres a ton of objects in and around the Kuiper belt that are as big as Pluto or bigger.

Its annoying because as kids we were taught that Pluto was a cool little caboose of a planet. But it turns out that like so many other things, the adults teaching us didnt really know what they were talking about.

Pluto is the best planet, so they keep their status. Ceres is still a nice Dwarf planet, but their no Pluto...

Due to the elliptical nature of both orbits, Eris will be closer to the Sun than Pluto in about 800 years, just as Pluto was closer than Neptune from 1979 to 1999.

It's just so crazy to me how amazing our galaxy is when you think about it, and that humans do so well to figure out everything around us. We have such an intense drive for knowledge, we can be so smart and capable, it's too bad to see people who are degenerates and throw away every potential a human could have... I think we're so used to our society and day-to-day life, and that we consider ourselves so separate from nature, that we kind of forget how evolutionarily amazing we actually are.
