You're at home playing your favorite video game one day when suddenly there is a flash and a man walks through a purple portal.

He looks haggard, is wearing rags and says he is from the future and needs your help. He explains that the future is a horrible and digusting fascistic place. The Badeaux Dynasty have taken over the world as cult-like dictators and sadistically rule with an iron-fist for thousands of years. Their family lives in obscene luxury and showers their closest friends with everything the world has to offer, but everyone else on Earth lives as a subservient slave race in pre-industrial conditions with minimial technology and no access to travel or communication devices.

The life expectancy for 99.5% of the world is 23 years. Assuming they survive childbirth. Life Expectancy of a Badeaux family member or associate is 112. Starvation/Thrist is the most common cause of Death. Every facet of culture and propaganda is built among obeying and working for the Badeaux Dynasty and resistance is impossible due to the lack of resources and the sheer fact the death rate is so high, no one can even plan anything before they die, let alone organize.

The only possible way to resist them is to go back in time and stop them before they rise to power. He explains that their rise began with a HyperNexus Sigma Connection Protocol that went on to control the global media and eventually lead to their takeover. It goes live tonight and the perfect place to sever the connection just happens to be right next to where you work and have access too. It also requires the use of a phone app you know how to use but future guy doesn't. Meaning he needs your help.

Then later when you are at destination there is another even bigger flash and before you could spell your name a woman crashes through a green portal with a thud as she collaspes to the ground. She's naked, badly beaten/cut and in rough shape to say the least. She then begs you not to break the connection and to allow the Badeaux Family to take over the world.

She explains that she is from a future timeline where you broke the connection and stopped the Badeaux world domination. And that things were fine for several hundreds of years. People were happy and free as normal. But then Aliens from beyond the moon came to Earth and decimated it.



They wiped out all living creatures, drained the sea, took all the resources, left a barren inhospitable rock behind and buggered off.

The problem was in the free happy society, people were able to deny reality. Like they do now. When the aliens came billions of people denied it as a hoax or assumed we would easily defeat them or they came in peace.

This indifference and laziness of individuality allowed the Aliens to destroy or harvest everything but the dirt. The Badeaux for all their sadistic flaws successfully beat off the aliens by forcing the entire population of Earth to fight them without mercy or quarter from square 1. The aliens didn't know what hit them and were soundly crushed.

This actually was reported historically but the first future guy assumed it was a myth since the Badeaux Dynasty rountinely made up absurd psuedo-religious blatantly fake propaganda and the "oh Aliens came but we defeated them because we're so great." just considered part of it alongside "We cured blindness by farting in an old woman's face." or "The weather is just our moods. If it rains or is cold it means we are angry and you are not working hard enough!"

The future girl tells you that there are only 6 humans still alive in her timeline including herself and they only survived because they stole an alien shuttle. The other 5 are in worse shape than her and will soon die since there is no food or water left. The human race will literally go extinct if you sever the connection.

The future guy tells you to ignore her and argues that exincition is a better fate than slavery.

The future girl counters by saying "Ask any of those slaves if they'd rather die than be alive. It's an obvious choice. Otherwise they would all kill themselves."

The future guy bites back "If you'd seen the things I saw. All those bodies starved, brutalised. Do you know what Badeaux policy was? Oh, I'm not even talking about the murder. Murder was just the end of the fun for them. First came the humiliation, mothers raped in front of their children, husbands beaten till their wives couldn't recognise them, exhausted people buried alive because they couldn't work anymore. And it will never change, every day things get worse. No. Anything is better than that world. Even death"

The future girl looks at you, clearly not a match for the future guy in her current state and begs you "Please you must not sever the connection. If you do then you're dooming us all!"

"Fuck that!" the future guy shouts loudly. "If you don't then you're dooming us all."

You are ultimately the most important human in the universe as the fate of humanity falls upon your shoulders? Slavery and misery but life or freedom and happiness but oblivion?

Do we live a week as a tiger?
Or a whole life as a worm?

How do do you react?
What do you do?

The general population doesn't even have water and tend to die young. There doesn't seem to be a means for them to do anything other than work and die. This has been the case for thousands of years and there's no indication why anything would change

By giving me these two time travelers, you gave me that. I now know that more than one future can exist simultaneously, I also know that from some perspectives, at least one version of me has gone through this situation. Regardless of which time traveler I listen to, it will just result in another me going through this same thing. Due to the multiple timelines, the dilemna before me is entirely meaningless and all instances of me(in the subset that experiences this situation) will know that. As such, every me will seek to create another significantly different timeline. In some of these, the me making the choice will manage to alter history in a way that results in time travel technology being brought back to another me. Of those mes there will be some who manage to execute the plan we had thought up.
